There are mothballs and mothballs - one needs to check what is there. Naphthalene mothballs could turn 87 [or even lower grade] gasoline into 93 octane grade.

As I recall (may not be 100% correct on how it works) the MSDS sheet for naphthalene lists that it attaches molecules to the hemoglobin of the African-American race - this is not a joke!
