What do you mean, to annex it? Don`t know, I have no idea about how that works financially. Hey, I just drive a taxi lol! It seems to me though we have no choice, I let`s look at this seriously, are we going to expel 12 million people? I can`t see how that can be done. The democrats would have a field day comparing Bush to Hitler expelling the Jews.

I got no problem at all with Mexicans, I`ve worked with them and you won`t find better people, but it seems this illegal problem has been allowed to happen for too long, it is too late.

The only reason they seem to go the illegal route is because they can`t afford the money it takes to go legal, I really don`t think it is the learning the English part that prevents them. Most Mexicans I meet can speak English, it is the $1000 required to go legal that makes them go illegal. I just think an annex of Mexico is the best route, expanding US territory/interests hasn`t hurt in the past, but like I said I have no idea how that works. Look at Alaska, what the hell are we doing with that? Yes OK, to protect against Russians and we get oil, but right now that`s about as far away from mainland US as you can get, Mexico is right next to us plus we get all that Gulf of Mexico oil.

We don't have to expell them. Take away the incentives to come here (jobs, free medical care, any social services, no possibility of EVER getting a green card later if caught illegall in the US) and many will tale themselves home, just like they brought themselves here. Anyone who says it is not possible either doesn't want it done, or isn't very imaginative.
Oh, and having lived most of my life in the southwest, I can say that Mexicans are like everyone else. You have good and you have bad. I find it interesting that almost everyone who posts on the subject says they are the best people there are. That simply is not true. They are like everyone else, some good, some bad.

If we annex it, fix it (using their resources), and then turn it back over, that's one thing. Not one tax payer dime should be used. Let Tommy Franks run things until economic reforms are instituted, and the corrupt are all rooted out.

As far as deporting the 20 million, here. The europeans and canada are deporting some thousands a month of their illegals. No one is suggesting all at once.

Mexico is a different culture, just like PR is. We have little in common with them. Annexing Mexico would be a sure fire, rapid death of our culture. Also, as dollars are a main concern of yours, annexing mexico would deplete our treasury in short order as most of them would immediately qualify for welfare, medicaid, free housing, free this and free that. Think your taxes are high now? Also, who do you think that they would all vote for?
Many take the "illegal route" not because they wish to become citizens, but because they are looking for work. Period!

The only reason they seem to go the illegal route is because they can`t afford the money it takes to go legal, I really don`t think it is the learning the English part that prevents them.

You're not from a border state, are you. New York doesn't have CLUE what's going on in Texas.

Many of these illegals will pay thousands of dollars to a "mule" to bring them across safely. Once here, they sign up with their fake IDs and SS cards (again, costing hundreds of dollars) to get all the benefits they can grab. And then they demand the schools, businesses and government offices provide Spanish speakers, because they have no interest in learning English.

Many, many, many do NOT want to come just to get a job. They come just to get the free benefits. Having an anchor baby just cements their ability to stay.

And who pays for all these housing subsidies, free breakfast and lunch programs, free education for the children, free medical care for the whole family (and since they don't pay for it, the emergency rooms are overcrowded with the most minor problems), free food, free legal counsel, free prescription drugs, free _____________?

Even those who do get work will usually be paid "under the table," so they aren't paying taxes. Yes, they may pump some money into the economy, but it's negligible compared to the enormous drain on the taxpayers. And those who DO pay taxes got their jobs with false documents, yet another crime.

And speaking of crime...although less than 1% of the population, 30% of prisoners in the federal penal system are illegals. In border states, the percentage of illegals in the state prison systems is staggering. And that's just the ones who are caught and prosecuted.

It's not just a "compassion" issue. It's a safety issue, a national sovereignty issue, an allegiance issue, a rule-of-law issue, a property-rights issue, an ethics issue, an economic issue, etc.

I realize you don't support the in-your-face propaganda evidenced in some of the marches. But really, law-breaking is law-breaking. We cannot, must not, reward this behavior.

And the businesses who profit from these low-paid workers MUST, MUST be prosecuted. The laws are on the book, but they are not enforced. There is no disincentive to the businesses, and a giant benefit: profit margins. This has to stop, immediately. The law must be enforced and the penalties so staggering that businesses will cease hiring illegals. A $200 fine is laughable to a company like Tyson Foods -- not that they've ever paid it. Seizing their assets and throwing them in jail for a year or two might make a difference in their attitude.

It'll be interesting to see the tone in today's demonstrations, now that the PR spin doctors (and John McCain) have advised the crowds to act more "American" to gain sympathy.
