Steyn is BRILLIANT!!!
I wonder if the politicians truly understand how FED UP most Americans truly are. These protests (take over) today have made me sick this morning.

Yeah, who cares if Presidente Arbusto's abrogation of his sworn constitutional duty leads us to a bloody civil war, and a dozen of our cities burn to the ground? No biggie.
U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4:"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"
Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

Never repeated?
Never is a long time, terroists are watching the message our elected officials are sending the world, and that is
we don't enforce our laws.

Let's get the discussion focused on exactly WHERE our problem lies. It is with our Immigration department their refusal to do their jobs.
@@@@@
This is exactly the problem. The Immigration department is in the Executive Branch. The Legislative Branch makes the laws that are supposed to be enforced and has Oversight. Just think about all the "hearings", aka theater, that our congresspeople have to showcase Admin officials that they love to pick on - Rumsfeld and Pentagon officials come to mind.
Have you ever heard of a hearing on why x million unauthorized aliens are living in America? I haven't.

People following the rules are the low hanging fruit and Immigration gets to look tough on immigration practices in order to make up for their incompetence when it comes to dealing with illegal aliens. This way they can say they are enforcing the laws, doing a good job and deflecting criticism away from the illegals issues. This is the best and most concise description I have ever seen about the functioning of the INS. They get their "stats" and/or job satisfaction by refusing a certain number of applications. It is akin to cops stopping folks for not wearing seatbelts instead of those who are driving dangerously.

you mean we can put men on the moon, but
can't put illegals on the other side of our border?
if we can shut down money wire transfers operations funding terrorist nations, why can't we impose a 25% tax on US dollars wired to MX to help fund our border fence?

Although Bush has to shoulder a great deal of the blame for where we find ourselves on the illegal alien issue, especially the thousands of lawbreakers presently clogging our streets and cities, there is plenty of blame left for Congress.
I've spent the last two weeks talking to Washington, phoning members of the House and Senate, emailing and faxing, and generally raising hell. Anyone on these FR threads who is complaining but not busy doing what so many of the rest of us have been doing, is not entitled to a complaint.
Our political crapweasels are hearing plenty about this from the voters. Hard to get through to Washington, all of the lines very busy, especially the White House line. Took quite some time to get through to the Senators, but I finally did after a few hours. Of course, my two Senators are part of the problem on the illegal alien issue. Both of them voted in favor of amnesty, though of course shouting loud denials. They really do hold the voters in utter contempt.
