Alright then, I was wrong to suggest that source without knowing much about it. Feel free to feel smug.

LOL! As if anyone here expected you to suggest a source WITH knowing much about it. Your mea culpa rings as hollow as your faith.

An excellent link...I notice that both the AiG and Hovind agree, that its most likely that Darwin never recanted on his deathbed, and that the known evidence shows that Darwin never recanted on his deathbed...in fact, Hovind says, that he never recalls ever having used the 'recant' claim in his lectures, as he considers it to be untrue...

Yet, every once in a while, we have some FR 'expert', throw out that line, that "Darwin recanted"...obviously, they are not on board with the most up to date, current creationist/ID points of discussion...

I do believer the list of arguments creationists should not make is getting longer. Not long enough, but it's progress.

I think you've basically realized your error, but just to make it totally clear, Josephus was born in 37 AD - about five years after the Crucifixion. His fame derives from his chronicles of the Jewish Rebellion and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD.

The earliest reliable independent reference to Jesus Christ was in Tacitus' history of Nero, written about 105 AD. It was in the section where Tacitus discusses Nero's persecution of the "followers of Chrestus" a half century before the time when Tacitus wrote the Histories.

For that matter, evolution was the very last thing I would've thought I'd be debating when I first signed up on FR. The reason I first signed up is because I wanted to join an election poll ping list that a Freeper told me about on another board (it was a small private board that's been gone for a few years now). Then, aside from the elections, the only other topics I regularly discussed in the early months were the lead up to war in Iraq and the economic recession of that time. I was a bit of a doom&gloom type back then, but I've seen the errors of my ways! :)

Anyhow, believe it or not I was quite stunned when I discovered what a hot topic evolution is on FR. Maybe I've just been off in my own little world for a couple decades when it comes to that, but my impression was that only backwoods nutjob hicks seriously argued against evolution anymore. I've certainly learned otherwise!! I quite honestly didn't realize this was still such a vigorously debated topic among ostensibly educated people, and if anything I'm invariably irritated when I get caught up with what I think is a huge waste of time (but it'd be worse to let the Luddites prevail).

I have been on FR for almost 5 yrs, but only on the Crevo threads for about 5 months...I too, was stunned to see that evolution was such a hot topic on FR...in my real life, at home, at work, in church, in dealing with everyday friends, families, and acqaintances, I never saw so much debate...it really was quite a shock...

That was my impression too, up until about 9 months ago.

"For that matter, evolution was the very last thing I would've thought I'd be debating when I first signed up on FR."

Me too. I started out on threads about free trade, drug policy, and copyright protection. Those topics are almost as contentious as the crevo threads. My brother had alerted me to the FR a few years ago; I lurked for a bit before joining.

I had always had an interest in evolution/creationism, though I stayed away from the crevo threads. I have a degree in history and some grad work towards a Masters I wasn't able to finish because of a family illness. My concentration was the history of science, particular the history of biology and evolution. So I strayed into a few crevo threads where some silly historical nonsense was being claimed. I got hooked and stayed.

There are other political topics and threads I read but there doesn't always seem to be a point in posting on most of those threads. It's really not that much fun (or educational) posting on a thread where everybody is in agreement and everybody is just patting each other on the back. I admit I like a little conflict in the threads I am posting on. I see my purpose here (beyond my own entertainment) as trying to convince others of my ideas. I am mostly concerned with the lurkers, who far out number the posters. I try to stay on topics I feel I have a reasonable understanding of. I have opinions about a number of topics but don't feel I know enough to make a meaningful contribution.

Long-winded post over. lol

But what interests me, is why would anyone object, if some FReepers limit themselves to certain particular types of threads...who cares, or why should anyone care, where Freepers prefer to post...on FR we have posters who post mainly to religious threads, posters who post mainly to 'fun' threads, posters who post mainly to threads about Terri Shiavo, and on and on and on...who cares?...that is the beauty of FR...it can and does accomodate all kinds of threads, and we can all pick and chose where and how often we want to post on whatever threads we want...Until JR decides differently, thats how FR works...

That was my impression too, up until about 9 months ago.

Most surveys show that the number of people who are skeptical about evolution hasn't changed in 30 years (which is disconcerting in itself, considering how much more evidence there is for evolution now than 30 years ago, but that's beside my point).

I think the internet has made the anti-science crowd bolder; never before in history could discredited ideas be given the appearance of so much false validity (& the market to match) just by posting a bit of code in the public domain.

who cares, or why should anyone care,

I've only ever seen one poster who cares about what thread topics other posters post on. And it's on only one topic this poster is concerned that posters do this. Interesting.

That and GWB's poorly considered comments. GWB is a good man, but he really should have stuck with main stream issues.
