A day in the life of President Bush (4/8/06): photos & news

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: With protesters planning to go to Crawford over the Easter break, the White House has not released information as to where the President and his family will be this weekend and next. Waco Police Chief Alberto Melis said the President has returned less often since the hurricanes struck last August and September, with fewer visiting dignitaries. He also said he was told Bush is "not coming" to Crawford for the Easter holiday weekend, April 16, when he has annually gathers with his family. The White House has not released plans for the Easter weekend, but spokesman Blair Jones emphasized that the President looks forward to visiting the ranch whenever he can and said protests will never diminish that appeal.

Between protests and threats on the President's life, the White House has been more guarded in releasing his schedule. The following is the latest of three stories about threats to the President in this news the past few days.

Mental patient threatens President Bush
Saturday, 08 April , 2006, 15:50

East St Louis: A Palestinian man threatened President George W Bush while receiving mental-health care, according to an indictment that raises questions about how to treat such comments by mental patients.

Federal grand jurors indicted Arafat Nijmeh on two felony counts of "knowingly and willfully" threatening to harm Bush - first by telling two workers at his treatment centre that he wanted to castrate Bush, then a day later to secret service agents notified by the centre.

The indictment issued on March 23 and made public this week says Nijmeh told the agents that his threat "is not too harsh, considering what he has done to my country. If not that, then maybe something else, you know?"

Nijmeh, 26, later said he was joking. He remained in custody on Friday pending a bail hearing on Monday.

Acting US attorney Randy Massey and defence lawyer Philkavanaugh declined to discuss the case further. Authorities also would not discuss Nijmeh's residency status in the United States or his mental health treatment, citing privacy concerns.

Bush signals opposition to automatic citizenship for illegals
Sat Apr 8, 10:28 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush has expressed his opposition to granting automatic citizenship to those who had crossed the US border illegally after a Republican-sponsored immigration reform plan collapsed in the US Senate. "We must ensure that those who break our laws are not granted an automatic path to citizenship," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

The comment appears to place Bush at odds with two key proposals considered by the Senate over the past weeks, which offer legalization -- and eventual citizenship -- to all or most of an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States. The president has not formally endorsed either of the bills.

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Tuesday, President Bush will visit Jefferson City, MO, where he will visit the Heisinger Bluffs Senior Living Community. He also plans to participate in a forum about the new Medicare drug benefit during an event at the Miller Performing Arts Center.

Wednesday, President Bush will welcome President John Kufuor of the Republic of Ghana to the White House.

Also on Wednesday, Vice President Dick Cheney will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals' Major League Baseball home opener. The Nationals' first home game of the season is against the New York Mets. Since 1910, 12 presidents and four vice-presidents have thrown a ceremonial pitch in Washington.

There are no new photos of the President or First Lady today, although there are a couple of the President's dad. So it's a good opportunity to take a trip down memory lane.

All in a short paragraph, this is smart parody from sportspickle.com skewers venal Congressional politicians, relentless negative media reporting, and the con game known as 'presidential approval polls.'

Bush Defends Fantasy Football Strategy

President Bush responded to mounting criticism about his fantasy football strategy today, stressing that patience is required in order to realize the benefits of the administration’s plan.

Criticism has come from both sides of the aisle –- and has coincided with a drop in the president’s approval rating – after Bush took the injured Michael Vick with his first pick and then followed with a defensive player, Tampa Bay linebacker Derrick Brooks, in the second round.

Here's just one small reason why...

The Library of Congress released this photo of a personal printed copy of Thomas Jefferson's, 'A Manual of Parlimentary Practice,' with Jefferson's handwritten notes. Vermont Democrats met today in response to resolutions passed by several county committees calling on the Legislature to use a little-known parliamentary rule in the U.S. House to send a pro-impeachment message to Congress against President Bush. Those urging the Legislature to weigh in cite a little-known provision in Jefferson's manual. Section 603 of the manual allows a state legislature to ask the U.S. House to begin impeachment procedings.

Update: RANDOLPH, Vt. -- The Democratic State Committee on Saturday voted to urge the U.S. Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush, but decided against asking the Vermont Legislature to join that call.

Wolfstar's comment: Democrat is just another word for hate.
