Why a Hairstyle Made Headlines (4 Bag Barf Alert)
The Washingtpn Post and Drudge ^ | 7 April 06 | Robin Givhan

Posted on 04/08/2006 4:19:46 AM PDT by SkyPilot

When Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) summoned the media to Howard University last week to tell her side of the story in an altercation with a Capitol Police officer, she assumed the traditional news conference position behind a podium and a bank of microphones.

She stood there wearing a coral-colored jacket and dangling earrings and raising the serious issue of racial injustice. But it was impossible not to stare at her hair. As your plainspoken mother might say, it appeared to be standing all over her head.

Oh, the hypocrisy!

Ms. Givhan has a "race-traitor," "smooth, controlled cap of hair."

Do you still believe that everyone should have the franchise? When everybody can vote the result is often someone like Cynthia "Prissy" McKinney gettting in office.

Are you saying black Americans shouldn't have the right to vote? There are white idiots in Congress too. Ted Kennedy for instance.

They have a new album now, called Ogre Tones, and they're touring. They are still just awesome. This show was probably the second best show I've seen by them. They did lots of old songs too, of course, they had a firm set list this time, so the show didn't turn into a big request session like they used to. I would recommend it, if they're coming to your area.

My favorite band of all time!

Is this the same wench who gave the Veep a ration of excrement for wearing a warm coat to some ceremony?

They were my only band for a while (well, them and Santana--old stuff pre-World Music/pop kick he's been on for the last decade or so). I saw 'X' in a small club in New Jersey during the Tapehead tour (the last album of theirs I bought). It was cool how they, in fact, took requests from the crowd. They're always re-inventing their sound, an artist's prerogative I suppose, but the change in style from Dogman to Ear Candy was a bit drastic (though I hung with them for awhile...Tapehead indicated a complete departure from their "Out of a Silent Planet" roots, and, I'm afraid I sensed more confusion than clarity from them (particularly Doug Pinnick, who was/is/always will be(?) going through some sort of identity crisis (Did he grow his hair back?...When I saw him, he was shaved bald)...
I guess in the beginning I got hooked with some of their underlying Christian-based messages (got invovled with their music about the time of my own spiritual conversion), but the more they drifted away from that message, the less I found to identify with...still, their musicianship is awesome and their minimilist lyrical style challenges me like a good painting--though, as I said, is also frought with some underlying identity issues (some of that, I believe, is an attempt to explain away their earlier Christian-oriented message)...

"No barff alert needed here Sky ... That article was funnier than the **** Official Friday Silliness Thread ****"

Agreed. LOL, you can't make this stuff up, it is just so ridiculous. Leave it to the Washington Compost to print this dribble. The article is just stupid and reeks of racism itself. What pinhead editor approved this crap?

McKinney is an embarrassment and this "article" is just trying to confuse the issues in an odd, racist, surreal sort of way.

She even attacks children. Remember the ugly comments she made about John Roberts' young son's outfit--saying his clothes were out-of-date.

She has a lot of nerve attacking the way anyone dresses, much less John Roberts' little boy.
