"This made me wonder if Turkey really is ready to join Europe."

Make no mistake. Islam and Western Civilization are totally incompatible.

When I was stationed in Turkey we had two mascot stray dogs. Both were Anatolian shepherds and both were fiercely protective of us Americans. Lady and Bugsy would run with us every morning for PT and occasionally would chase off other feral dogs. Lady had been abused by Turks who had tortured her and cut her ears off. She wouldn't let a turk get within 10 feet of her but would come to any American soldier happily when called. When the weather was really cold both dogs would get shuffled around through our barracks rooms, and the cooks made sure they were fed very well. I heard through the grapevine that Lady died of old age, and Bugsy was adopted and brought to the USA by a soldier when our old base was closed. Apparently the adoption paperwork was "expedited" by the girlfriend of our SGM who worked at the embassy. Lady and Bugsy had friends in very high places.
