"He complained that immigrants are making it harder for Americans to keep good jobs, especially blacks."

Pardon me for stereotyping, but most of the immigrants aren't taking the "good" jobs. In our area (Baltimore-Washington corridor) there are an awful lot of black lawyers, professors, and civil engineers - and an awful lot of Hispanic day laborers.

If he thinks he can get $80K per for spreading mulch in an office park, he's sadly mistaken.

In the same area there are an awful lot of Hispanic doctors, lawyers, accountants, and other middle-class types ~ a gazillion of them ~ about half recent immigrants, and almost none of them from Mexico.

They are taking ALL the jobs.

think this man was speaking of building trade jobs,
plasterers,painters,dry wall tapers,roofers,carpenters etc.
Many home improvement contractors simply pick up their workers daily, pay them 10-15/hour----no bookkeeping required..
these are good jobs, and were limited to English speaking Americans in the past, full time employment with the same "gang" and boss.
i don't think he was referring to lawyers etc in home depot's parking lot.
