Evil has always thrived under the excuse of ignorance.
Democrats = Evil.
Republican Senators = Evil, and just smart enough to make themselves look Stupid.
Notice I say only Republican Senators. In my years on the hill, I met dozens upon dozens of highly principled, idealistic conservative house members. And only one trustworthy Senator who is still around, Coburn (OK). The rest would sell their own mothers into the sex-slave industry, as long as they got rights to the internet postings.
