" A family in Maynard is outraged after their 5-year-old daughter was forced to write a letter denouncing hugging after a classmate embraced her."

"NewsCenter 5's Amalia Barreda reported that Brenda Brier and Michael Marino pulled their daughter, Savannah, out of school early Wednesday. The couple was angry after a meeting with officials at the Greenmeadow Elementary School in Maynard, where Savannah is in kindergarten."

"At issue is a hug Savannah said she got on the playground from a friend named Sophie. Savannah hugged Sophie back. The hugs resulted in Savannah having to write a letter, complete with teacher corrections, that read, "I touch Sophie because she touch me and I didn't like it because she was hugging me. I didn't like when she hugged me."

"She said, 'I'm really sad that I got in trouble for hugging,'" Brier said."

I got in HUGE trouble in school when I called Lousille the term "Loose Whale". I am sorry but she was overweight and besides I was dared. I was yelled at by my teacher so badly that the entire school heard her yelling at me outside the classroom. I just took it and did not mention anything about the other kids daring me. The one thing that I did not count on was that her teacher also weighed a ton and I think that she did through school so she felt bad for the girl. My father wrote her a nasty letter the next day and I gave it to the teacher in a very smug manner. The one thing is yes I should not have said it, but damn I was just a stupid youngster. BTW, it was the talk of school until I finally graduated from 8th grade.

Years ago when I was student teaching in an elementary school, I was "warned" to try not to hug any of the first graders as they left the classroom (the art room). I soon found out why. If you let one of them get a hug in, every single one of them wanted a hug, including ones that already were out the door. Some even tried to sneak seconds! Meanwhile the next incoming class would be waiting impatiently in the hall. It was hilarious and kind of sad at the same time- they were so eager to soak up affection.

These days I'd probably get handcuffed if I hugged those children, and that's a wretched shame.

I have a nine year old grandson....a treasure...kind, loving, considerate! My daughter and I have told him that he can't point his finger at school like he has a gun (he knows what laser guns are all about).

Now should we tell him he can't hug?

I don't think so. I really don't think his school officials would over-react in the manner this school has. This is really so very sad!

What is more amazing?

Alittle girl getting in trouble for hugging a friend or THe local TV Station dispatching a mobile crew to the scene of the hug?

Yeah, and I can tell you what happens when a kid grows up without hugs - worth about $20,000 in shink bills. Been there, done that.

Public schools are a menace.

"kids that hug"-- a new epidemic sweeping the nation. these evil kids should be forced to register as sex offenders.
then give them some sensitivity training.
that should fix them!

Oh, I'm skrooed!

Both of my Sons love to hug. They must be victims of a horrible upbringing where evil hugs are commonplace.

Bad Daddy! BAD!

There is some sick behavior going on here. It's just not being done by the children. These people are perverts, plain and simple.

In psych 101 it's called "projection". You interpret another's behavior based on why you would do the same thing. Ipso facto, the aid, the teacher are sickos.

The teacher must have been jealous that she didn't get to fondle the child.

If that excerpt was actually WITH the teacher corrections, this school has worse problems than its utterly insane anti-hugging policy.

"I am so sick of the liberal shit."

Liberals can't stand Platonic hugs????
I'm getting sicker of libs by the day.. They praise disgusting behavior, yet condemn CHRISTIAN behavior... Simply mind-boggling!

> The Left have thoroughly polluted our culture with the vile thoughts in their own filthy minds.

Is this such a leftist incident? The aide and the teacher and the school admin had little choice in the matter, because the *lawyers* could have sued their asses off. Just for a kid hugging a kid.
