Amnesty is a pardon for committing a crime. Not a good way for a government to do business or do discourage future crime.
We don't need to deport all 20 million - with jobs and without social services, they would self-deport. They managed to get here, sneaking in through the desert in the dark of night. They can manage to get out.

I disagree. Tax amnesties, for instance, seem to generally be a rather effective way for governments to do business. This particular amnesty may be a problem, but in general, it's a valueable and useful tool.

That's a theory but I'm not convinced. As long as they have sympathiser here, like the catholic church, they will have someone here to provide shelter and money. It's more than they will get in Mexico.
