A person can be living in sin and call him/herself anything they want but they are not a Catholic unless they live up to the beliefs and rules of the Catholic Church. You are incorrect. Catholics who sin are still Catholics. Excommunication is a canonical penalty and the occasions for its imposition are spelled out clearly in the Code of Canon Law.
A person who sins, even who commits a mortal sin, is not automatically excommunicated. They are sinners, and can be reconciled to the Church through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

"borderless", not "boarderless"
Sorry for the typo. I caught it in MS Word, but did not copy it back here.

I stand by what I wrote. I may have written it badly. I did not mean to imply that sinners were not longer Catholics. I said that people who refuse to live by the "morals and rules" of the Catholic Church are no longer Catholic. A person not lawfully married cannot receive Holy Communion in the Catholic Church. They may think they are still Catholic and call themselves by that name but they are not Catholic.

They may think they are still Catholic and call themselves by that name but they are not Catholic. You can believe whatever you want, but, theologically, you are simply incorrect. Even Benedict XVI has explicitly stated that those who find themselves married outside the Church are still imperfectly united to the Church.

What do the words "imperfectly united" suggest to you? The new pope is very much more interested in getting along with everyone than I personally would like.

The new pope is very much more interested in getting along with everyone than I personally would like. Perhaps a church that doesn't reach out to sinners might be more to your liking.
