Morrow Throws Gauntlet Down on Exploitative Employers and the Mexican Government

Sacramento – Senator Bill Morrow (R-Carlsbad) announced today that amendments to his Senate Bill 1194 would require all employers, both public and private, to verify the legal status of all potential employees.

Senate Bill 1194 mandates that employers participate in the federal “Basic Pilot Program” to verify an applicant’s name, birth date and social security number prior to hiring. Created in 1997, the “Program” is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration and is designed to provide instantaneous verification of the legal status of a potential employee at no cost to the employer.

Currently, all states utilize this free program on a voluntary basis; however, if field agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) determine that an employer has hired illegal immigrants, and in doing so, made no good faith attempt to verify the legal status of the illegal workers, then the extent of the fines levied can be increased and future participation in the Basic Pilot Program becomes mandatory for the fined employer.

Senate Bill 1194 would immediately make participation in the Basic Pilot Program mandatory for all California employers, thereby greatly reducing, if not eliminating, the number of workers illegally hired in California.

“Most California employers are honorable, but the practice of hiring illegal immigrants is wrong, counter-productive and outright illegal!” said Morrow. “To line their own pockets, employers who knowingly hire illegal workers exploit the poorest, most desperate people in the hemisphere. In doing so, they pull millions of the neediest and their families here, where they end up taking American jobs, suppressing American wages, and causing taxpaying American families to subsidize the education, health care, welfare and incarceration of illegal immigrants. Some estimates put the costs of providing medical care, education and incarceration alone at over $10 billion per year.”

“I support a strong fence to secure our national border. But if SB 1194 were enacted, it would reduce the pressure on such a fence. More importantly, it would reduce the pressure on the American worker and taxpayer.”

“During the past week, I have been utterly stunned by the hundreds of thousands of radical protestors around the nation who advocated illegal hiring, open borders, illegal immigration, ignoring our Constitution, the rule of law and the principles upon which our nation was founded,” said Senator Morrow.

“In Addition, I have been just as appalled by the apathy of our government’s leaders in both parties who refuse to stand up for the laws of this land and secure our borders against trafficking of illegal labor, drugs and potential terrorists weapons. SB 1194 is one surgical step toward putting some backbone back into our government.”

“But the ‘pull’ from unethical U.S. employers is only half the problem,” said Morrow. The Senator also cited the “push” caused by Mexico’s stagnant economy that results from the massive inefficiency in California’s southern neighbor.

“The Mexican government continues to prop up and protect its wealthy elites from the threat of true reform that might liberate the Mexican people,” said Morrow. “Instead, they oppose any policy that threatens to effectively secure the U.S.-Mexico border that is the pressure valve for all their social and economic problems.”

“The hypocritical policies of Mexico’s government and its leader Vicente Fox, who, while closing off Mexico’s southern border against illegal immigrants from southern nations is escorting their own citizens across the California border and practically handing out job applications to boot,” said Morrow.

Morrow added, “The people of Mexico are our friends and neighbors, not our enemies – but the relationship between friends and neighbors cannot be co-dependent and must be managed properly.”

Morrow further stated, “Besides, one of the great myths is that American consumers get cheap agricultural produce, landscaping and home construction from illegal immigrant labor. Actually, those who allegedly benefit from cheap prices are actually paying dramatically higher taxes in order to subsidize the government programs that support the presence of the illegal workers. The costs are hidden in a nasty little shell game that is kept from the taxpayers and consumers.”

“Senate Bill 1194 may not be popular with the exploitive employers in the business community, but my oath of office was made to the Constitution and the people of California, not to those who knowingly break the law,” concluded Morrow. ###

Senator Bill Morrow (R-Carlsbad), expressing outrage by the decision of the Oceanside School District to ban flags and related patriotic symbols from North County schools, delivered the following opinion today:

First, I’m glad that conditions seem back to normal this week after a surprisingly large number of students from multiple schools engaged in unauthorized walkouts, protest demonstrations, physical confrontations with police and other disruptions this past week.

Government’s top priority must always be to protect public safety. Likewise, the main priority of public schools must be the safety of our children.

Unfortunately the decision to ban the wearing of American flags in order to achieve safety is terribly misguided.

There’s something very unfair when kids from any city in any state in this nation are prevented from displaying the Stars and Stripes on their jackets, caps, shirts, backpacks or notebooks.

But that’s what happens when you punish the innocent along with the guilty because you’re afraid of violating the tenets of political correctness. You sacrifice justice and principle on the altar of political expediency.

Fortunately, some schools responded early in the demonstration process by taking strong disciplinary measures against the specific perpetrators and those schools are free this week from absurd bans on American flags of questionable constitutionality.

It appeared that the overwhelming majority of the students involved in the disruptions generally supported the mass national protest marches against the illegal immigration reform legislation being considered in the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC.

And, the only reason illegal immigration reform legislation is being considered is that our nation has an illegal immigration crisis that is massively out of control due to literally decades of gross mismanagement by both Democrat and Republican administrations in their codependent relationship to a very sick Mexico.

But, this illegal immigration crisis has now done far more than merely suppress wages and displace American workers – mostly poor Hispanic-Americans and African-Americans at the lower end of the labor market – from their jobs.

It has also made federal lawbreakers and their advocates feel secure, even enthusiastic, marching in the streets en masse, demanding rights and advocating anarchy and the end of the rule of law in America.

And, it’s not just in the streets of Washington, DC and Los Angeles.

For example, it’s gotten to where it affects school kids from Oceanside, California, many of whom have parents who are U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton currently serving in Iraq. These kids’ parents wear our national flag on their Marine uniforms while fighting and perhaps dying to free a foreign nation.

Yet those Marines’ children, back home in Oceanside, are not allowed to wear the U.S. flag at their own school for fear that they are alienating someone who favors a different nationality or national heritage. Even though the same kid pledged allegiance to the U.S. flag that very morning – or so we hope.

There’s something very sick and dangerous going on in America and it’s high time to kick over the poisoned apple cart being pushed about by the ACLU and other purveyors of multicultural madness. And I do mean, “madness.”

He has zero chance of winning this race, and he's threatening to throw the nomination to Bilbray over the other two conservatives -- Roach and Kaloogian.

You are dead wrong and I know whose lies you and others have been swallowing. You are either the recipient of purposefully skewed polling data or you aren't from around here. Morrow has a stellar 14-year record of fighting illegal immigration and a champion for strong border security - he is a proud registered Minuteman; he authored legislation for a state constitutinoal amendment to place traditional marriage as between one man and one woman in the state constitution; he has authored and co-sponsored legislation for the protection of our children from child rapits and has done the same for all life at every age and stage - the born and the unborn, the elderly and the infirm. A strong constitutionalist, staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment, he already represents over 70% of the 50th Congressional district in his current legislative district so to say he has no name ID or chance of winning is simply wrong and wrong-headed.

How long have you been living in San Diego to know what you are talking about?

He is a great candidate, a real scrapper, and my Senator, but unfortunately, I too do not think he will get the nomination. Looks like Bilbray will scoop it up even though there's been a lot of efforts by the CRA and Baldwin to warn voters.

Well, that's a defeatist attitude if ever I heard one! Why not put your boots on the ground and round up your friends and neighbors and get them to the polls next Tuesday for Morrow! Go to www.billmorrow.com for more info on how to help if you really care.

Nothing you said is incorrect -- except the part about him having a chance to win.

I will take a bet from anyone, any time that Morrow does not win. Just FReepMail me with your contact info if you're interested.

You are a defeatist, aren't you! Morrow has gained the trust AND the votes in 5 elections of over 70% of the 50th Congressional District in his current state legislative seat.
Keep your bets to yourself.

I'm not a defeatist -- there are three very conservative candidates in this race. I think that one of them will easily win if one of them drops out. If no one drops out, it will be close.

Considering that he's polling at about 5 percent and the leaders are near 20, I think it should be Morrow who drops out.

Aha! You are looking at skewed polling data. I knew it and the other candidates have been spreading this stupid poll far and wide. Here's the real breakdown of that skewed poll. Those who have been in grassroots politics for a long time have learned that polls can be skewed to get results in a positive or negative way. In the recent DataMar Poll, there were some serious flaws which I thought you would want to know about.

The DataMar Poll errors/flaws are:

1. Failure to rotate

According to the DataMar survey, Scott Orren finishes fourth. Yet, he has
spent next to nothing on his campaign and had little name ID headed into the
race. Could his relatively high showing be attributable to his incorrect
ballot designation or to the fact that he was listed first on every single
interview.

By contrast, Alan Uke's name was last in every single interview.

The pollsters' failure to rotate the names gives advantage to the first
candidate and hurts the last.

2. Demographic Errors

Understated nonpartisans. While 21.6% of voters in CD 50 are not
registered in any party, this survey has only 7.6% as not registered in any
party.

Overstated age 60+ population. 52.6% of the voters surveyed were over age
60! Those kinds of numbers do not reflect reality.

Undecideds. This poll has only 3.6% of voters as undecided. This is an
incredibly low number and suggests that 96.4% of all voters have made up their
minds two weeks before an election.

NOTE: While there is no statistical yardstick with which to compare the results as it relates to Undecideds, polls for president usually have a higher undecided. :)

NOTE: The nonpartisans should be understated. The number of nonpartisans is usually closer to 15% than to 7.6%.

3. Incorrect Ballot Designations

Brian Bilbray. Bilbray is listed as "immigration reform advocate" and as
"immigration reform candidate" in two different parts of the poll. The
ballot designation "immigration reform advocate" was rejected by the
Secretary of State as misleading. It's inclusion biases the result in favor
of Bilbray.

Scott Orren. Orren is listed as "businessman and veteran". Yet, his
correct ballot designation is "military defense consultant". CD 50 has an
extremely large veterans voting block and that word 'veteran' surely helps
boost Oren's numbers above where they belong.

4. Obvious Flaw

Scott Orren, who has no name ID and has run no campaign, is ahead of the sitting state senator who represents 67% of the 50th. Orren is also ahead of Richard Earnest who has been elected to the Del Mar Council and was mayor, and Bill Hauf who has spent nearly $1 million. It seems apparent that Oren's erroneous ballot designation and position at the top of every single survey give him more strength than he really has.

I suspect this battle will be carried into the June primary depending on the outcome and there will be no "rallying around the favorite" if Bilbray gets the nomination. All of the people in this round are also going to be on the ballot in June

I hope someone out of the three -- Roach, Kaloogian, Morrow -- has the sense to drop out before the June race. It should be whoever gets the fewest votes -- and I'm telling you now, it's going to be Morrow. Not that I don't like him, I'm just saying, he's going to finish fourth at best.

All of the many polls I have looked at have significanf flaws, and I think they are having more of an effect at affecting the voting outcome than reflecting the attitudes of the district. I think we will be seeing a second round after April 11th.

I think their web site has been posted before but I'll give it anyway. www.minutemanhq.com This is an exceptionally good site. Even many good sites are 50% fluff but this is where FReepers can hear the REAL story about the illegals and what's happening on our borders. You can also become part of their e-mail list and donate. It's a great site and if you want to see what's happening to our country from "ground zero" - click into it!!

Dear Cold666pack. Thanks for the implication that you would help if only you were in San Diego. Actually, I'm helping from Tampa FL. Fairly easy - call the campaign ( 760-804-8524 ) and ask for a precinct call list. Or I can send you one. --- You might also check out my analysis of Bill vs Howard - see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1609941/posts.
Take two things into account: 1.) The recently involved wealthy and the brash characters always do better in polls than they do on election day. 2.) Bill's core support comes from those in the district that have already voted for him 5 times, re-electing him over and over again. These two create a great climate for a Bill Morrow victory.
