ALAMEDA Police say they removed an unusually large amount of guns, including several assault weapons, from the streets last month.
Of the 13 guns confiscated in March, many were discovered by patrol officers during routine traffic stops, Lt. David Boersma said.
"We've had a dramatic increase in weapons violations during the past month," he said.
A patrol officer making a routine traffic stop March 19 on Central Avenue discovered a Tech-9 machine pistol in the driver's waistband, Boersma said. The officer ordered the driver out of the car because he appeared fidgety and kept touching his waistband, Boersma said.
On March 26, police recovered a shotgun froma driver during a traffic stop in the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue.
A couple days earlier, officers removed an AK-47 and several other weapons from a house in the 1800 block of Poggi Street while investigating a noninjury shooting that happened March 22 in the 100 block of Brush Street.
Police responding to the Brush Street call found more than a dozen shell casings from an assault rifle, but no victims.
Boersma said the AK-47 recovered March 24 on Poggi Street was used in the Brush Street shooting two days earlier.
And while investigating a burglary at Kragen Auto Parts last Wednesday, police recovered an AK-47 with a bayonet attached and a bulletproof vest from a residence in Oakland.
Five of the 13 recovered guns were prohibited assault weapons, Boersma said.
Cinqo de Mayo falls on the fifth of May this year. Funny how that works.
My finest Cinqo de Mayo remark of all time (actually overheard in a bar in Flagstaff): "Oh! Do they celebrate Cinqo de Mayo in Mexico too?"
Keep Beltane sacred...
Aieeeeee! The horror! The horror!
thanx!
He could have crabs, that makes people fidgety when they are trying to not have people see them scratch themselves.
My question is how many stops did they make during that time, if it was 13 then there could be that a larger number of criminals are in possesion of firearms. Did all the people that had the guns have criminal records, if so how many were felons and were they arrested?
Also, I am betting that "A couple days earlier, officers removed an AK-47 and several other weapons from a house" were counted in the 13 guns. Why did they pull the house over, was it speeding?
The illegals and the commies are planning a big protest and boycott for May 1, the commie holiday. Why it's not May 5, I dunno.
What do they mean "recovered"? Confiscated, maybe, but unless they were lost or stolen, how could they be recovered. Newspeak at work.
Because May 5 is "get drunk on crappy cerveza" day.
Uhm, I guess that makes sense, in a mexican sort of way.
Think "Mexican St. Patty's Day". At least in the barrio I used to live in, complete with a parade down the main street and enough Mexican flags to make a blanket for Chihuahua.
