Suspicious police officers stumble upon homemade bomb (Aryan Brotherhood Member w/ I.E.D. in Texas)

A 26-year-old man with connections to a prison gang was arrested early Tuesday morning after Lubbock police found a live bomb in his vehicle.

Patrol officers observed Jeremy Lynn Womack of Lubbock acting suspiciously and pulled him over near the 7300 block of University Avenue about 12:30 a.m., Sgt. John Gomez said.

Felix Garcia, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives resident agent in charge, said intelligence information and tattoos visible on Womack's body indicate he is a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, a white supremacist prison gang.

A narcotics-sniffing dog indicated to police there were drugs in the silver 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse that Womack was driving, Gomez said.

As officers continued to search the automobile, they found an explosive device in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, Garcia said.

Officers then called the regional bomb squad. Technicians secured the area and disarmed the bomb.

"It was an improvised explosive device," Garcia said. "These things are extremely dangerous - they are very, very unstable."

Garcia said the bomb Womack possessed was considered live because it was comprised of a container, powder and a firing device. Explosives such as these are easily detonated by shock, friction or heat.

It is unknown why Womack was carrying explosives, Garcia said.

"There is no legitimate reason to carry such a device," he said. "They rarely have no legitimate purpose except to maim and hurt people.

"Any time you see one, the best thing to do is call your local police department," he said.

Garcia said a federal complaint will be filed against Womack for possession of an unregistered improvised explosive device.

If convicted, Womack could face up to 10 years in federal prison and up to $250,000 in fines, Garcia said.

Womack was being held Tuesday at the Lubbock County Jail on state explosives charges and charges of narcotics possession in lieu of a $25,000 bond, according to a jail representative.

He was scheduled to have an additional hearing for charges of possession of a prohibited weapon Tuesday night, said a jail representative.

About a year ago, the city began installing a drainage system city-wide where each playa lake is connected through underground pipeline, and they all spill over into each other until they spill onto a spot outside of the town--I think a city owned farm, maybe.
Consequently, it hasn't really rained much since they began this installation, but, yes, the mall parking lot DID flood a great deal when it used to rain.

I was funnin' y'all; here in Nashville, we have 1st Avenue on the west side of the Cumberland river and 1st Street on the east side, all running pretty much north and south.

Don't Mess With TX.

There is a significant number of Freeper's here who jump all over the police for, essentually, doing there job. I am referring bothto some articles about a woman in Salt lake City, who refused to show her ID to a cop and a man in DC, who did the same.

I defended the police and received some pretty harsh criticism over my comments. I had those stories in mind when I made my comments.

Funny, I do not see any posts here commenting that the police "over reacted", but then I have not read all the threads.

I think it's about a hundred and twenty miles from Lubbock to Midland (I didn't look it up.). That's about an hour and a half.

"They rarely have no legitimate purpose except to maim and hurt people.

So he considers maiming and hurting people to be a legitimate purpose for having a pipe bomb? I'm not sure he said what he meant to say there.
