I don't like medical spending accounts. The problem is that it's a "Use It or Lose It" system. If I gaze into my crystal ball incorrectly and put too much into my account, I lose it at the end of the year. My question has always been- who gets that money? No HR person has ever been able to answer that question.

The "Use It or Lose It" aspect is proposed to go away. It will be just like a regular savings account with unlimited draws. No penalties. A modest interest rate.

They are now carryover and no longer "use or lose" systems. In addition, my deductibles can be set up to mirror what is in my account and the monthly rate is adjusted accordingly. I am just starting to use this type of coverage so I don't have any experience to judge, but I anticipate being very satisfied with the flexibility.
