Every so often, even the WaPo has it's limits. It's like when a trashy apartment gets too bad for even a slob to stand anymore. They do a respectable job of taking out the garbage on this one and are not intimidated by the fact that these particular sacks of garbage stink up the faculties of Harvard and U. Chicago.

It appears as though Mr. Cohen is more intent on justifying the Israeli lobby than denying it exists.

1. These authors are clearly anti-semitic
2. Israel is one of closest and most loyal friends
3. So is England
4. Its fitting and proper that Christians recognize the special place that Israel holds and our kinship with the Jewish people
5. As with England or any other close friend and ally, friendship should not be blind and we do need to recognize when our interests diverge or when our friend is doing wrong.

U.S. support for Israel has led to such disasters as America's status as the No. 1 target for Islamic terrorists
If Israel did not exist, I would be a proud enemy of Islam.

"If this sounds personal, it is, although I am only a footnote target for Mearsheimer and Walt. I am a public intellectual and a proud Jew; sympathetic to Israel and extensively engaged in our nation's military affairs; vaguely conservative and occasionally hawkish. In a week my family will celebrate Passover with my oldest son -- the third generation to serve as an officer in the United States Army. He will be home on leave from the bomb-strewn streets of Baghdad. The patch on his shoulder is the same flag that flies on my porch.
Other supposed members of "The Lobby" also have children in military service. Impugning their patriotism or mine is not scholarship or policy advocacy. It is merely, and unforgivably, bigotry."
My favourite part of the piece is its ending.

I cannot but marvel at the number of people who consider the New York Times a "Zionist" publication. What would the NYT have to print or advocate to be recognized as anti-Zionist, which is what it has always been?
