Immigration Surprise?
A Productive Sessions
No Democratic Beef
Good morning all.
Early ping today. I am going to be out this morning. Have to catch the rerun.
Have fun.
Good morning, dinasour. Enjoy your morning and hurry back. I heard Senator Sessions on Bill Bennett's program this morning. He said the bill is now at a stalemate (which those of us who watched that circus in the Senate yesterday know)and they think they are going to have a few senators huddle in a dark room and then come out and say they have fixed the bill. He doesn't think that is going to fly.
Please come over to the Finest & say

Will someone ask the senator about this?
Do unto Mexico as Mexico does unto you:
The Congress has received lots of free advice lately from Mexican government officials and illegal aliens waving Mexicos flag in mass demonstrations coast-to-coast. Most of it takes the form of bitter complaints about our actual or prospective treatment of immigrants from that country who have gotten into this one illegally or who aspire to do so.
If you think these critics are mad about U.S. immigration policy now, imagine how upset they would be if we adopted an approach far more radical than the bill they rail against which was adopted last year by the House of Representatives namely, the way Mexico treats illegal aliens.
In fact, as a just-published paper by the Center for Security Policys J. Michael Waller points out, under a constitution first adopted in 1917 and subsequently amended, Mexico deals harshly not only with illegal immigrants. It treats even legal immigrants, naturalized citizens and foreign investors in ways that would, by the standards of those who carp about U.S. immigration policy, have to be called racist and xenophobic.
For example, according to an official translation published by the Organization of American States, the Mexican constitution includes the following restrictions:
Pursuant to Article 33, Foreigners may not in any way participate in the political affairs of the country. This ban applies, among other things, to participation in demonstrations and the expression of opinions in public about domestic politics like those much in evidence in Los Angeles, New York and elsewhere in recent days.
Equal employment rights are denied to immigrants, even legal ones. Article 32: Mexicans shall have priority over foreigners under equality of circumstances for all classes of concessions and for all employment, positions, or commissions of the Government in which the status of citizenship is not indispensable.
Jobs for which Mexican citizenship is considered indispensable include, pursuant to Article 32, bans on foreigners, immigrants, and even naturalized citizens of Mexico serving as military officers, Mexican-flagged ship and airline crew, and chiefs of seaports and airports.
Article 55 denies immigrants the right to become federal lawmakers. A Mexican congressman or senator must be a Mexican citizen by birth. Article 91 further stipulates that immigrants may never aspire to become cabinet officers as they are required to be Mexican by birth. Article 95 says the same about Supreme Court justices.
In accordance with Article 130, immigrants even legal ones may not become members of the clergy, either.
Foreigners, to say nothing of illegal immigrants, are denied fundamental property rights. For example, Article 27 states, Only Mexicans by birth or naturalization and Mexican companies have the right to acquire ownership of lands, waters, and their appurtenances, or to obtain concessions for the exploitation of mines or of waters.
Article 11 guarantees federal protection against undesirable aliens resident in the country. What is more, private individuals are authorized to make citizens arrests. Article 16 states, In cases of flagrante delicto, any person may arrest the offender and his accomplices, turning them over without delay to the nearest authorities. In other words, Mexico grants its citizens the right to arrest illegal aliens and hand them over to police for prosecution. Imagine the Minutemen exercising such a right!
The Mexican constitution states that foreigners not just illegal immigrants may be expelled for any reason and without due process. According to Article 33, the Federal Executive shall have the exclusive power to compel any foreigner whose remaining he may deem inexpedient to abandon the national territory immediately and without the necessity of previous legal action.

Always Awake

A mother and her 4-year-old daughter were preparing for bed. The child was afraid of the dark. When the lights were turned off, the girl noticed the moon shining through the window. "Mommy," she asked, "is that God's light up there?" "Yes, it is," came the reply. Soon another question: "Will He put it out and go to sleep too?" "Oh no, He never goes to sleep." After a few silent moments, the little girl said, "As long as God is awake, I'm not scared." Realizing that the Lord would be watching over her, the reassured child soon fell into a peaceful sleep.
As Christians, we may confidently commit both the night and the day to our ever-faithful God. He is fully aware of our fears in the dark as well as our frustrations in the light. We can be assured of His constant care. His loving eye and protecting hand are always upon us.
Perhaps you face lonely hours because of illness or the loss of a loved one. The shadows of the night make the anxiety of your situation seem greater than ever. Doubts arise and fears flood your soul, robbing you of your needed rest.
Trust the heavenly Father, and with the psalmist you will be able to say, "I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety" (Psalm 4:8). Remember, God is always awake. Paul Van Gorder
If you have trouble getting to sleep, try resting in the Lord.
No McKinney today?
My heart breaks.
Coffee in hand, out of lurk mode for at least a while.
Flashback... from Slate (no less):

Like I said earlier... the officer should charge McKinney with racial discrimination... she does have the history.
Here's some more history on Cindy (news in sidebar also):

This should be posted.
So glad I'm not able to watch those shows. My brains would fall out. McKinney is a total wack job. I hope the talking heads keep interviewing her. She makes the republicans look better every time she's on TV. I think a republican 527 should make a commercial with her pointing out she could have an important committee position if the dems take over the house. Even if that wouldn't happen because of Pelosi, "stretch" couldn't really come out and say "no way on this earth would we give that dope a chairmanship." This is really becoming fun.
It is so good to see you, tol.
