Israeli elections are over now...I have been waiting for the announcement of his death to come either today or tomorrow...obviously they kept it going so his party would win.

Somehow, "skull surgery" and "breaking" just don't go well together in a headline.

I thought from the headline that this was an attempt to improve the boxoffice at Sharon Stone's stinker of a movie.

Poor Ariel. They need to let him go quietly and rest in peace and quit trying to resurrect him.

Comatose Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will be going in to surgery to restore his skull, it has been announced.
Mr Sharon had part of his skull removed for previous operations after he suffered a debilitating stroke.
The operation will be carried out on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr Sharon suffered the stroke on January 4 and has not regained consciousness.
More follows...

Seriously, they really should pull the plug and let this poor man die peacefully...
To: Fury
Because Sharon's stroke caused massive swelling, doctors removed part of his skull. This is "stored" in the abdomen until the swelling resolves, then replaced.
This is done to permit the swelling brain to push against a skin flap, rather than the skull, which could have caused the brain to "herniate" through the small opening at the base of the skull, resulting in death. It allows a patient to survive the acute brain injury without dying from herniation. Unfortunately, when swelling from stroke is severe enough to require this kind of intervention, it usually indicates there is not a lot of normal brain remaining to effect a "meaningful" functional recovery.

Obviously to you, perhaps.

I agree. But I guess its up to his family. Prayers for his family and for Sharon.

The issue was whether he was "temporarily incapacitated." Because he was so declared by the attorney general, that meant that Ehud Olmert could be interim prime minister. If, on the other hand, he had been declared "permanently incapacitated," the prime-ministership would have gone to the head of the party through which he was elected, Likud, and Benjamin Netanyahu would have been the interim prime minister.

Amazing that he's been kept him "alive" this long. I hope the political considerations surrounding his fate fade soon.
