Editorial from this morning's (4/4) Daily Oklahoman:

WE THOUGHT we had heard the last from California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher last summer, after he said he would drop his ridiculous plan to hold hearings to explore conspiracy theories tied to the Oklahoma City bombing. Alas, we were mistaken.

SNIP...

We suggest that Hyde, R-Ill., toss Rohrabacher's proposal in the trash and tell his colleague in no uncertain terms that taxpayer money won't be wasted in this way. McVeigh planned and carried out the bombing. Nichols assisted. Those facts are clear 11 years later, just as they'll be 11 years hence. Perhaps by then we really will have heard the last from this California rabble-rouser.

END

As an Oklahoma resident, I find it interesting that the local paper finds this matter to be completely settled.

Your thoughts????

I think there's no doubt that McVeigh and Nichols did what they were charged with doing. But there's no doubt they were assisted by ME terrorists and it's interesting the paper is ignoring the evidence that a report (Davis) in their own state has provided.

I don't know what to think about them other than they are in denial.

As far as the Daily Oklahoman was concerned, it was pretty much "settled" by around April 20th or 21st, 1995.

"The Tulsa World got ahold of the memo ..."

That's why. The lib paper in the state, which has nothing to lose because it's in Tulsa, not OKC - the actual bombing site with its name attached forever in infamy - doesn't mind expending its energies trying to track down anything that might lead back to a Pubbie somewhere being at fault, as in Bush41.

The O'homan OTOH, bless their hearts, won't expend any energy at all doing anything. They just don't. Ever. Some of the letters to Dear Abby make them cringe; they're that "conservative" in the "to the right of Attila the Hun" sense.

So am I, but my mind's a little more open. Maybe with a sho-nuff oil boom back on, they'll kick up their heels a bit, as in the old days, and go back to snooping around. But don't count on it. As long as the Baptists and Muslims peacefully co-exist in the community, which they have for a long time - and I won't say out loud why that is - everyone can eat falafel and hummus and no one's sensibilities are upset.
