Afterall, back then all one had to do was walk off the boat.

I wouldn't really mind it now if there wasn't the helping handout for the illegals at the expense of my ability to raise capital and create value. That is to say, special privileges for illegals paid for by gov't who extracted money from my earnings and charged me for my own property at the point of a gun, possible only because I'm a law-abiding natural born citizen. This hinders me in transforming the value I create for others into wealth for myself.

Of course there are other issues, like power-hungry politicians seeking to grow a voter base on people who benefit from illegals or who are illegal immigrants. Or people in business who have already given into the inevitable and hire illegals to remain competitive, because gov't won't enforce the laws fairly.

So much of the ire on the subject is founded on what I like to think of as people's gut feeling that illegal immigration is an issue which will lead to a decline of civilization. If a person feels like there is no stopping it, then the sensible course of action is of course is to give into the inevitable, and try and cope. Of course coping depends on the perception of what the form of the inevitable will be. A rational person has only to look south of the border to divine the end game....
