What would happen if Aztlan comes to pass?
Would the SW remain a prosperous area supporting the rest of Aztlan?
Or would it turn in to just another part of strife ridden old Mexico?

Man, that's a toughie (/sarc).
Aztlan is the result of filling this nation with only one group of immigrants (because they are able to cross the border) and limiting access to visas to other groups of people. Aztlan is a result of lacking diversity regarding who comes to the US and who cannot.
They either don't care or have some sort of unrevealed reparations plan in the works that will cause us to pay them billions of dollars to maintain the upkeep on the lands they get.
