A roiling sea of immigrants - many of them in the country illegally - and their supporters poured across the Brooklyn Bridge and into Manhattan yesterday to protest what they call "oppressive" reform measures currently under consideration in Congress.
Marchers, waving flags from Mexico, Colombia, Honduras and El Salvador, chanted and carried signs recalling America's roots during the demonstration, organized by state Sen. Ruben Diaz, a Bronx Democrat and native of Puerto Rico.
"That flag on top of the Brooklyn Bridge is symbolic because all these other flags, all these other nations, are covered by the USA," declared Ismael Claudio, 35, also a native Puerto Rican and therefore a U.S. citizen.
In the House, legislation already has passed that would set penalties for anyone who knowingly assists or encourages an illegal immigrant to remain in the country.
The Senate may adopt a broader bill that would be less punitive, create a guest-worker program and open a path to citizenship for the estimated 11M immigrants now in the country without proper papers.
As they trekked over the bridge, demonstrators carried signs proclaiming, "Did the pilgrims need green cards?"
Patricia Urgules, 35, of Ecuador, said......"I came here in search of the American Dream - the dream to be free, to be treated equally," she said. "We only ask for those basic principles this country was founded on."
Construction worker Eduardo Segundo, 40, of Harlem, scoffs at the notion, mentioned by Mayor Bloomberg last week, of a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border.
He recalled sneaking across the border 12 years ago - and said 20 of his and his wife's relatives now live in the United States. ".....The wall that they build will not work. People will just figure out a way to cross."

The illegal aliens and the criminals who hire them and the criminals who harbor them are getting out in the street making their desires known. It is way past time those of us who support the rule of law and secure borders did the same.
Join Veterans for Secure Borders, The Minuteman Project, Latino Americans for Immigration Reform, Mothers Against Illegal Aliens, and other groups protesting amnesty for these criminals, and demanding the government protect our borders.

FReepers should be at this rally in strength. Saturday, May 6, in Crawford, TX.
MSM polls are biased. I don't trust the MSM and certainly don't trust their polls.
Does anybody have a link to this poll? What was the exact question? What was the sample size?
i believe thay picked May 1, at least that is what I have been hering out here in Calif
Thread about poll here.
May 5th, huh? I will have to circle that date on my calendar so I can keep better watch.
Yes, a lot of people might have to clean their own house, mow their lawns and cook food, but I 'think' we can make it through one day without them. LOL I'm pretty sure that "Cinco de Mayo" is the Spanish word for the 5th of May. It's always been a big celebration in NM because we have 48% legal Hispanics.
It's been a big day in NM, for as long as I can remember. We have 48% legal Hispanics and they really celebrate it too.
"sounds like a declaration of war to me!!"
and our Senate wants to surrender!
What would it cost to deport the roughly 20 million illegal aliens?
Less than it costs to keep them here?
Actual numbers such as might appear in a Federal budget would be helpful. Even Ted Kennedy provided actual numbers last week.
Great idea.
Something has to rattle their cages and soon.

I have heard the date May 1st.
I thought that made more sense, since they wouldn't want themselves to lose big money with all the drinking and eating out on Cinco de Mayo. Maybe I heard wrong.
I will listen closer.
You have no idea. My wife (a native of Mexico doing housecleaning for a dentist when I married her) told me about their vacations, house floor plan, routine, fights between siblings and the daughter (14 at the time) wetting the bed EVERY night...and then some which I won't publish here. Oh, and that's just ONE household among several she cleaned at that time.
I'll tell all of you something. I'm sick of my warnings not being heeded here. If you don't begin to listen the entire nation is going to pay -- I've tried to use the reasoned, somewhat civil, nice approach. Next, it's going to get ugly because people either have to wake up or we're all going down.
You are right on target. Exactly right. (Fixed spelling on campesinos and hope you don't mind.) I can not believe how ignorant Americans are of what these people are like.

Go back and research my posts and comments. I've been writing this for YEARS on this forum!

For a one time event, alot less than the continuing costs of housing, schooling, medicating, prosecuting, insuring, etc the continuing growth of both border crossers and the births of those babies born here.
If the fence doesn't work, turn up the amps until the spasm and smoke!
