BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw paid a surprise visit to Baghdad on Sunday to discuss efforts to form a unity government.
British embassy spokeswoman Lisa Glover said Straw was "here to talk about government formation." Straw and Rice are due to meet Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and President Jalal Talabani and other leaders during the day.
The visit comes as Jaafari faces mounting pressure from both within his ruling Shi'ite Alliance and rival politicians to step down.

She picked a nasty, rainy day to show up.
At least the violent thunderstorms that went on most of the night and up until about noon have backed off.
Maybe she can push the formation of the government in a diplomatic manner.

Suspecting that someone in DOD leaked her plans to Harry Reid.
A week or so ago he was demanding she go to Iraq to get the process moving forward. At that time she indicated she would not be going to Iraq.
I suspect a rat in the DOD.
Evidently compromising her security is of no import when it comes to politics.
Just my opinion but I am suspicious.

Caught Condi on C-Span the other night, at Chatham House in the UK, with Jack Straw, taking questions...mostly hostile. She was amazing, relentless, polite, but didn't waffle one inch.

Certainly she'll be consistent and hector them too
to provide more and more of their country for Jewish settlements.

Of course they'll discuss no such thing.
FYI, Iraq (Babylonia in antiquity) was a center of Jewish learning and culture for a good millenium. It still would be if criminals like Saddam Hussein hadn't taken over.

Seriously, I don't think they are there to talk about the weather. Well, I don't know...we had one heck of a ferocious storm in the wee hours of the morning that lasted until after noon today. VERY high winds, lightning, loud thunder and heavy rain.
Seriously, they've made government unification a top priority. We've had a lot of U. S. government bigwigs in and out of here the last week or so. None of us were surprised to see the heavy-hitters come in.

Yep, it's political crunch time over thee.
Well, stay inside in those storms now. And stay off the roof!

The storm is over and the sun is back. Well, it's setting now.
The roof is FUN! You can watch the activity on the city streets from there.
