Bronze statue of Pope John Paul II to be unveiled on Sunday
Chennai: A 22-feet high bronze statue of Pope John Paul II, created by sculptor Shihan Hussaini, will be unveiled here on April two on the first death anniversary of the Pope.
Bearing the inscription 'The Third Step-St John Paul II', the statue, costing Rs four lakh, was completed and mounted on a pedestal six days after the Pope's death, a press release from the sculptor, who is also karate exponent, said here today.

Hussaini claimed that the statue was a personal tribute to the miraculous powers of the Pope, which saved his life on three occassions.
Stating that a representation would be made to the Tamil Nadu government to allot a suitable place for installing the statue, made of bronze, metal reinforced fibre and concrete, the press release said it would remain at the Sculpture Mission in the city till then.
