Flags Banned At Local High School- students SUSPENDED for bringing US FLAG to school

(CBS4) LONGMONT, Colo. Several students were under suspension for flying flags at Skyline High School in a debate over immigration that has sparked debates over free speech and patriotism.

On Friday, some of the students skipped classes and took to the sidewalks outside the school.

"If this country means freedom why can't we fly our own flag? It's ridiculous," said Dustin Carlson, a suspended student.

The walkouts started on Monday when Mexican-American students began protesting the immigration bill now being debated in Washington, which calls for criminalizing illegal immigration.

Several carried Mexican flags which started counter protests from students who bore American flags. That's when the school stepped in.

Principal Tom Stumpf said students were becoming involved in what the school saw as bigotry.

Mexican-American student Lupita Silva claimed there were racial slurs and epithets.

"Just because you're Latino, they hate you," Silva said.

Stumpf said he feared the conduct with flags on schools grounds could "pretty quickly erupt into violence." He said it's his responsibility to ensure the school and students were safe and called reaction to the suspensions "misguided patriotism."

Several students were suspended but only after they were told no overt action deemed to be racial would be tolerated.

"It wasn't because of the flag necessarily. It was because of the fact that they had been warned before," Stumpf said.

I do not work for Loretta Sanchez or live in Santa Ana, but I have assisted illegal aliens there. As a Baptist, concerned about the Separation of Church and State, I would be very upset if Catholic priests were barred from offering Holy Communion because of who would be next. For the last time, can you now answer my question?

Did you assist them to La Migra?

Why are you spamming this thread?
What is Christian about that?
Baptists are neither concerned about "separation of church and state" nor about the ability of Catholic priests to give Communion.
You're a liar and an imposter.

Which doesn't even matter in the present discussion.

This is a discussion about the fundamental right of Americans to display the American flag.
Since you disbelieve in that right, you're on the wrong forum.

We are patriots here.

I'm not spamming - I was asking you a simple question which you refuse to answer. As for the history of "Separation of Church and State" in this country, I believe you are mistaken. Try again.

This is some major major major BS. I can't believe it's happening in a place like Colorado. You would expect it to happen in some bastion of liberalism, like
Sonoma or Marin county in California, but in Colorado?

I can't believe how much this country has changed. I grew up & went to school in San Francisco in the 70's and we had ROTC, rifle team, Fleet Week, etc. None of this anti-American BS that seems to be present everywhere lately, especially in the educational system at all levels, even private.

Thank God for the students who are standing up to the idiot imbecile principal and his cronies. What a great group of Patriots! God Bless them all!

Just wondering...If your allegiant is Christian and If Jesus himself tossed merchants out of the temple, with violence then to reject the merchants who advocate anarchy and the lack of authority and their workers isn't that serving righteousness? Or are we to accept the illegal immigrants and their employees false claims to steel and rob tax payers and to reject the authority of the laws , that were created by a nation inspired by God through Christian Values?

Not sure of your questions - are you equating those who violate man's law by hiring illegal aliens with those who violated God's law in the Temple?

Jesus advocated expelling People who did not obey the authority of God from the temple, the merchants , do you agree or disagree on this?

It is just a coincidence, but a fact it is the merchants today and their illegal workers whom are steeling from the tax payers but even more notable they are rejecting the authority of a country whose laws and form of government was inspired by Christian values ...

I am sorry but you are wrong. Banning the mexican flag does not follow you have to ban the American flag. This is America, not mexico. The pricinpal had no problem with flags until the students started waving the American flag and then he banned them AND he stated that the american flag was being used to "vilify" other students and that the students who carried american flags were racist, but of course the mexican flag wavers were not.

The only reason he included the mexican flag was because he thought he would look fair and just. There is no justification for banning the American flag. Since when is an American flag a danger to the safety of students? Do you think some students were going to smother others with the American flag?

You are evidently a pro ILLEGAL, not just from this post but from all your post on all threads with ILLEGAL alien topics.

If you don't want to live here move to another country,if you want to live here demand respect for our laws, all of them, including immigration laws.

I always agee with Jesus. And, forced to choose between man's law and His law, I choose His.

I am not moving. I would be interested in a quote from principal that "the students who carried American flags were racist, but of course the Mexican flag wavers were not." As for safety issues, I don't think smothering was the issue. If the principal thinks the flags would have provoked a riot in the school, I have no problem with him banning them.

All flags? They need to ban some words too like, "American."

It's racist word like the American Flag is a racist symbol and nothing to be proud of..
