Not exactly. An orgasm produces a chemical reaction that's not simply in a person's head. But I do think that one can become compulsive about something for entirely psychological reasons. Look at the full context of that discussion. I wasn't the one arguing that addiction required a direct chemical connection.

And before you also accuse Larry Niven of being a closet liberal who rejects libertarianism just because he wants stuff from the government, please read this interview with him. Pay particular attention to the part where he explains why we don't have the flying cars predicted by early science fiction authors.
