Soldiers Thank Church for Protecting Them in Prayer ... Deployment in Afghanistan

For an entire year, the flock at Grant African Methodist Episcopal Worship Center in Austin, Texas, would stop everything they were doing at noon and pray for the safe return of the soldiers of the 11th Area Support Group in Afghanistan.

They prayed that the group would return "whole, safe, unscathed and unscarred." The congregation also sent the soldiers care packages, blankets, cookies and encouraging emails throughout the year the unit was deployed, according to a report in the Austin Statesman.

Last Sunday, they thanked God for answering their prayers because the entire unit made it back home without any injuries earlier this month.

Also on Sunday, Col. Joyce Stevens presented the Austin church with a Minuteman statue, the highest National Guard award bestowed on a civilian or organization. "It makes all the difference in the world because you know you have support," she said. "We knew they were praying."

"When you're far away from home, and you don't know if you're going to be back, knowing that they're praying for you. . .it feels so good," said Sgt. Sylvester Kincheon, who also attended the service. "You never really know how much it means to you to receive things from people who believe in you until the situation you're in."

"It was enormous to know we have family here and believers here that thought well of us and the cause," said Chaplain Maj. George Johnson, who was deployed with the troops. He credited their safe return "to all the grace and providence of God."

Hi EG -- it's great to see this happening today. I have read about the exact results -- 100 percent protection and safety -- happening in other wars when people back home took up the cause of local soldiers / military members in regular prayer. I would love to see this take hold and spread like wildfire in every community in America.

Thank you for this post.

To go into battle knowing that @ noon a whole lot of people are praying...what strength does that give these warriors.

God is good
