Illegal aliens didn't build U.S.
Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | March 29, 2006 | Jack Markowitz

Posted on 04/01/2006 6:57:01 AM PST by Supernatural

It's a new chapter in the Promised Land. We are becoming The Land That Better Keep Its Promises - or Else. Even promises that never were made.

A half-million illegal aliens and friends and sympathizers have taken to the streets of late, demanding unhampered residency and employment. Their anger is being whipped up against an America that would fence its borders against more coming over, and require proper payroll-keeping and taxpaying from employers who hire them outside the law.

Why? In part because a new myth is gaining currency. It is that illegal immigrants, mostly of Mexican or other Hispanic origin, "built this country." Without them the economy would collapse.

"We are the motor of this nation!" a speaker harangued the 500,000 who marched in Los Angeles on Saturday. "We construct your schools! We cook your food!" Other thousands marched to this beat of indispensability in Phoenix, Denver and Milwaukee.

That people who entered the United States by stealth feel entitled to tie up U.S. downtowns with their grievances is nervy in the first place. But their slant on U.S. history is off the wall. No better clue might be needed that kids should be taught in English, fast!

It was religious freedom-seekers from England who began building this country, followed by natives of every part of Europe, Asia and Africa. And their descendants keep right on building it as e pluribus unum Americans -- "out of the many, one." Don't expect them to honor some dubious economic necessity to let everybody in.

Thanks for the link. I gave that site a quick glance and there is a wealth of info there.

I'll give it a longer look later.

Looked like it had a lot of information and also a lot of pictures will be available there.

In my teenage years I hauled bales of hay, built corn silos, and scraped and painted duplexes and old houses. The work goes on--done by illegal aliens.

We did - when it was posted on the 29th. (the search function is our friend)

Why do people like to post that an article was previously posted... use the search function? Not everyone reads all the posts everyday. As I didn't see this article before, I appreciate the repost.

The thread is pushing 150 posts now.

I guess a lot of people didn't see the original article.

I'm glad I posted this thread.

So. Dane. Tell me about your experience in agri-business.

Don't have any, but not as brazen to be a congresscritter such as tancredo, who has not worked in a wealth producing enterprise, to tell people who run such good wealth producing enterprises, how to run theirs.

Small point, but instead of going through the time and trouble to post a new thread, the poster could've bumped the old one. You'd have seen it anyway, if you rely on the 'Latest Posts' page.

How come no one makes the leftist argument that these illegal, black market workers are being "exploited" by their employers? The employers can get away with paying the illegals a fraction of what legal workers would get.

Still waiting for a clear explanation. After he has more coffee, all will be revealed. Maybe.

Well that is your experience. A time before X-boxes and where "Johnny" can do no wrong mentality by today's Oprahized parents..

BTW, my first real paycheck was when I was 16 as a busboy at a chain steakhouse. I say real paycheck because I mowed lawns for "cash" before that. Oh that's right my working for "cash" mowing lawns for "cash" is evil to you, nevermind.

As soon as you enter the real world and accept that there are such things as trial lawyers and teacher unions.

You keep bringing up teacher unions and trial lawyers. That's called a "Red Herring", which is a logical fallacy. That is why this "trump card" of yours is being ignored. It has everything to do with nothing on this issue.

So let's just get to the meat of the issue that you have with folks not wanting illegal labor in this country.

I'm willing to bet you are a farmer of some sort. You hire illegal, undocumented workers, don't you? Perhaps at a rate that one might consider them to be neo-indentured, right? How's that bank account? Got a nice car? Nice home? Would you hate to see that all go away if the illegal issue is finally resolved in a sane way and you have to pay someone a decent wage for the same work?

I would hate it, too. Viva capitalism while ignoring the laws of this country. Viva capitalism that hurts the economy of this country. Viva, viva, viva.

So go ahead and call me a DUmmy troll or whatever. I'm more of a conservative than you ever will be.

Don't worry. Consumers would vote out politicians that ended immigrant labor. It would just be so expensive, and some few jobs could not be filled otherwise.

Every voter is a consumer.

The only real debate is whether to legalise the immigrants without making them reenter legally. I think it's worth the modest price to make them reenter.

It's called reality, now can you make your point that teacher unions and trial lawyers don't exist?

I'll admit they exist. Does this mean illegals are good or bad?
