Sgt. Dick Poore, who investigated the incident, said it doesn't matter if the sex was consensual or how the family feels about Zuniga. He said it is illegal for an adult to have sex with a 12-year-old.
Wasn't the guy 17? That's not quite an adult.

We need to start requiring parental licensing classes, like driver's ed, so that parents like hers could have their certification revoked.

This is so outlandish it raises questions: How influential are the boy's parents? Was the jury shown the video tape? Was the prosecutor's presentation strongly worded (Ex. He did this, which is against Texas statutes ----, and here's the confession and video tape to prove it), or was it presented in a mealy mouth way (Ex. Oh, it was just kids being kids)?

It's just a guess on my part, but maybe the minimum sentence for the offense in Texas is so severe that the jury didn't think that the boy should be locked up for the length of time that a guilty verdict would have demanded.

I am surprised that there is even an outcry. Our nation stood by and let Clintoon at 54 do his thing with a 19 year old over whom he had almost complete control and blamed her. It may be time that we stop making victims of predators. //sarc.

Not really.
With the country drifting to more of a post-Judeo/Christian culture, you can
just expect to see more nullification of laws involving sexual conduct.
This nullification, birthed by the ACLU and even by the general mainstreaming
of pornography, is now manifested by such actions of a desensitized populace.
Just watch O'Reilly's show. The number of cases in which judges and even
state legislatures act (or remain passive) in favoring pedophiles over
their victims is simply a symptom to show that some part of the country's
soul has gone sick.
Hopefully for not too long.
Otherwise we're headed down the road of lots of long-gone civilizations
that committed suicide by actually deciding to favor the strong (sexual
predators) over the rights of weak (raped children, etc.)

There's a good chance the girl was white, and the grand jury saw this as a chance for La Raza to poke a stick in the eye of the gabachos.

The prosecutors should try again. Maybe the jury was impressed with the "rape of children is okay" mindset of the judges in Ohio, Vermont, Mass., and a couple of other states.

According to an infamous ex-POTUS...oral sex isn't sex.
And millions of Americans agreed with him.....so sadly this isn't a surprise.

Yes both the boy and the girl need to hanged for fornication. On a school bus - on which innocent children ride to school everyday.
