The reporter has at least a moral obligation to report what he or she knows if can prove innocence in this case.

I don't know if this article has been posted yet. One of the players' attorney is giving their side of what happened in some detail:

http://www.wral.com/news/8516436/detail.html

Key points:

* The players hired the strippers for $800- I suppose about $400 each.

* The dancers only danced for about 3 minutes before stopping and leaving with the money. The players were very frustrated and that was the origin of the email.

* The attorneys now believe that the first 911 calls was definitely made by the other stripper.

I believe that whether happened involved a dispute over the money that was taken by the stripper. It is possible that drunk and angry, they physically but not sexually assaulted her in an attempt to get the money back. Apparently some of the money was recovered in the first search. She became angry (or scared) that she didn't have the money she was counting on making that night. Perhaps her boyfriend was counting on her making that $800 and she needed an excuse as to why she didn't have it. So, after driving around for a period of time, the two strippers come up with a plan...

Of course, it is also possible that the players were so angry that they decided to take what they wanted by raping her. The DNA results are going to really tell the tale here, IMO.
