DURHAM, N.C. - The father of the woman who has accused members of the Duke lacrosse team of sexually assaulting her said he didn't find out that his daughter was the reported victim - and that she is an exotic dancer - until a reporter visited his house.
The retired trucker who lives in Durham said he saw his daughter the day after the reported attack, but she didn't say anything was wrong. She even left her car at the house for several days because he said she didn't want to drive it.
Her father, a quiet man who tinkers on cars as a hobby, said he saw news reports about the attack.
"I didn't know it was my daughter," he said. The Charlotte Observer generally does not name victims of sexual assault, so his name is being withheld to protect the identity of his daughter.
The case has ignited campus protests and stirred racial tension in Durham. The woman at the center of the case is black, and the men she accuses are white. She also is a student at N.C. Central University, a historically black college near Durham's inner-city, compared with the more expensive Duke campus.
DNA tests have been conducted on 46 of the lacrosse players, who deny the allegations. A 47th member, who is black, was not tested because the woman said her attackers were white.
Last week, a reporter stopped by the reported victim's house looking for her, the woman's father said, but he said he didn't know what was going on. He called his daughter and she said the district attorney told her not talk to anyone.
"(She) didn't tell us anything about it," he said.
He said he also found out through the media that his daughter, who is the youngest of three, was an exotic dancer.
"She always told me she was going to work," he said.
On Friday, he installed a timing belt in a car and watched his daughter's two children play outside the house. He said working on cars and playing with the grandchildren helps take his mind off what's happening with his daughter.
He said she seems to be doing "pretty good," and so is the rest of the family. He said they haven't talked much about the reported incident, but it weighs heavily on his mind. He said he's grateful that N.C. Central has been so supportive, but he doesn't like how his daughter has been portrayed in the media. And he's especially frustrated that no one has been charged in the connection with the allegations.
"If it had been anybody but them, they would have been locked up, but yet they didn't because it's Duke," he said. "I hope them boys - if they did it - I hope they get what they deserve. I hope they don't go lenient on them."
District Attorney Michael Nifong said he's waiting for results of the DNA test and that he does not expect to file charges in the case any earlier than next week.
Several of your posts denigrate the accuser, her past and most of your posts purport the statements made by the player's lawyers. It seems you have an agenda and are trying single-handledly to change what you see as "formed" opinions.
The public doesn't have information to know the facts of this event. That is what we have to wait for in order to reach an informed conclusion. Your claim that the local stations covering it constantly, has no relevance as to whether the lacrosse players have fully cooperated. Lawyers proclaiming two players offered to take lie detector tests are meaningless. That is the lawyers job; keep putting out statements favorable to their clients and cast doubt on the accuser. There are 30-40 people that could provide a meaningful picture to the university, the community and the investigators providing what each attendee can add to put together a full and complete account of that night.
Most here are responding to facts or assertions as they become available in order to play detective and solve the mystery of who is lying. We could sit and wait to discuss the case until after the verdict, if any, but why should we?

Kerry Sutton, who is representing Matt Zash, who lived in the house, said her client was one of the three captains who gave police a lengthy interview and written statement and offered to take a polygraph test.

Thomas said: "Everyone asks why these young men have not come forward. It's because no one was in the bathroom with the complainant. No one was alone with her. This didn't happen. They have no information to come forward with."
Butch Williams, who is representing Daniel Flannery, the third resident of the house, said the circumstances surrounding the 911 call that came at 12:53 a.m. March 14 did not ring true. The female caller told the 911 operator that she was passing the house where the party was going on and was cursed by at least one man standing in front of it.

Zash, Flannery and the other captains — David Evans and Bret Thompson — issued a statement Tuesday saying that the DNA results would prove the allegations false.
So according to the New York Times (yes, I realize it's the New York Times), we have four captains Matt, Dan, David and Bret. According to this article, Matt and Dan lived in the house. I recall seeing somewhere it disclosed that Bret was the other resident of the house, but I can't lay my fingers on that source at the moment.
And Dan went by the alias "Adam" when dealing with the escort service.
The stripper claimed that Matt, Bret and Adam were the ones who pulled her into the bathroom.
So it would appear captains Matt, Bret and Adam/Dan are likely the ones most in the crosshairs of the accusation. However, you are correct that it is possible that another Matt was the Matt referred to, or even that the players at the party (who had been drinking) all consistently used false names when referring to one another in front of the strippers, and that it was another three partygoers using the names Matt, Bret and Adam who were the ones claimed by the stripper as pulling her into the bathroom.
Okay. So you would say something good about someone that steals the car of her customer and goes on a high-speed chase through 2 counties, and then tries to run over a cop. Not to mention her DWI.
Do you NOT believe that story? Or are you saying SHE should not be judged on her criminal past, yet the players should BE
judged by off-campus open-container and underage drinking violations ?
I think ANY reasonable person when faced with the FACTS that there has been one sided reporting absent ANY charges. Even tonight, the stories coming out are about the same underage drinking violations and the e-mail sent by the 19 year old.
You'd think some stories relating to the Accuser's record would be printed tonight (since the story came out today), however, the stories are easily 100 to 1.

BRITAIN'S Prince Harry visited a strip club with some friends to celebrate the end of his army officer training course, British tabloids have reported.
The third in line to the throne turned down a lap dance with one of the scantily clad girls at the Spearmint Rhino Club, west of London, saying "No thanks, I've got a girlfriend," the Daily Mirror said.
But the dancer, named in the newspaper as Mariella Butkute from Lithuania, said Harry, 21, did let her sit on his lap for a 10-minute chat.
The prince and his friends went to the club in Colnbrook in the early hours of Friday morning, according to the tabloids.
The young prince is due to take part in a passing out parade at Britain's elite Sandhurst military college next week in front of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

That's your opinion. I'm laying out what happened or in some cases what I think happened (as say when I doing it) .. There are sources.

I'm a Duke graduate, and I have been reading this thread for the past few days. You guys have been doing a great job staying on top of this and exposing the inconsistencies in the alleged victim's story.

I'm not drawing final conclusions about what happened one way or another, but I do resent the way the MSM is taking the word of one stripper who has a serious criminal record at face value over the word of 46 young honor students.
I read on an NAACP site that she's studying to be an attorney. With her criminal past, how could she possibly pass the fitness test? Or do they not have the fitness test in NC?

Actually, a friend of mine managed a tanning salon and had black dancers tanning all the time. The reasoning behind it, if I recall, is that they want a tan line. Go figure.
