This comment is for general consumption.
I found this 'deal' contemptible !
If some lowly GS9 had done what Berger has done that poor person would be ruined for life. Berger skates with a wrist slap ! I bet Berger still has clearances !
What does Berger 'kiss-in-the-dark' punishment say to all the more lowly workers who hold security clearances.
One law for he & another law for thee !

...desperate people do very desperate things.
Connecting "dots" lead right to clinton's spineless actions during the mid 90's when nations were trying to deal with UBL AND OFFERED HIM to the clinton administration and scum bag did nothing because he worried about polls.....thus after numerous "actions" with no reactions, UBL showed his followers the US was weak and not willing to respond.
Able Danger, berger's stuffing, corelick's wall, tenet's TWO face to face meetings with clinton over three years, while
embassies were being blown up, USS Cole, and a very nasty and growing UBL even more popular and clinton...DID NOTHING.

he shredded them with a pair of scissors late one evening at the downtown offices of his international consulting business.

- the 'punishment' is exactly what they said how many years go? In other words - no punishment and in 3 years he's got security clearance again?

Were he a republican, he'd go to jail - for a long time and never work in government again....and every republican that had ever as much as passed him in hallway would be under indictment.

And why has he never been made to disclose who sent him to steal the documents - indeed, why isn't he being charged with stealing security information? He's only being charged - if you can call it that = with mis-speaking.

Fat Sandy was protected by a J. Edgar Hoover Insurance policy...
amazing what you can get away with when your old boss has a safety deposit box full of F.B.I. files...

$10,000 fine and accept a three-year suspension of his national security clearance.

THREE YEARS? The SOB should never see another classified document in his life. It's not like he has anything to contribute. I could see the light fine, if as a condition of that, he had agreed to fully cooperate with any National Security entity, State, Defense, CIA, or whatever at their pleasure for the rest of his life. Again, not that they'd be calling on him much.

The way it is, the guy can become Hitlary's National Security Adviser, just a few months after she could take office in January 2009. Or, failing that, he could serve on (Hopefully) the minority staff of some Congressional Committee, with access to all sorts of stuff he could then sell to the ChiComs, the Russians, or even the Jihadies.

Can we take any civil action against him. I would contribute to that. That is our papers he destroyed.

Top Secret too!

If you or I did what Bergler did we'd be in Leavenworth.
