I believe Space Above and Beyond was created by the guys who did season 2 of Millenium, which was a great show for that season. Seasons 1 and 3 were supervised by Chris Carter, who hated what those guys did to the show.

I seem to remember something about the guys who did X-Files being involved !
Space Above & Beyond had great potential. Interstellar travel was new. The show gave you the impression that the USA was the main space-faring nation. It also postulated a future where nations maintained their sovereignty but were affiliated for planetary defense. In fact I remember one episode with a British major. (Unfortunately it was one of the lamer episodes!) If you could put aside one's rationality and accept the unisex barracks & combat, with good writing the show could have survived and done well
