A Body Blow To Illegal Labor? Court rulings and legislation could change the game for companies such as Mohawk It could soon be high noon in Calhoun. The town of 13,000 tucked away in the northwest corner of Georgia has been reshaped during the past decade by a huge influx of Latinos. The big draw: jobs at Mohawk Industries Inc. (MHK ), the town's largest employer. The $6.6 billion carpet maker employs 32,000 workers in all, 4,000 of them in Calhoun and surrounding Gordon County. Once staffed largely by whites, Mohawk today has a workforce made up substantially of immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries. The lure of $7-an-hour work has helped lift Hispanics to 12% of Gordon's population today, up from less than 1% in 1990.

Tax evasion has been one of my biggest beefs about illegals and the scumbags who hire them. Not only has the federal government refused to enforce the immigration laws but the IRS fails to enforce the laws pertaining to tax evasion when it comes to mexicans and OTM's. They had no problem going after a rich white guy like Richard Hatch though. They saw him as an easy score. The IRS would scared to death to start going after brown skinned men from south of the border.

We have them in Northern VA too. I had to move to get away from one. A short list of what my new neighbors brought to our wonderful neighborhood:

-A fleet of battered, leaking vehicles, all parked in "visitor" parking spaces.
-Loud noise and music 7 nights a week.
-Mountains of trash piled in the common area behind our houses.
-Fights.
-Dealers.
-Whores.

According to some here on FR, these things don't happen. But we are not blind.

mlc9852 is all over every thread concerning illegals, he'll wear you out and has no argument whatsoever, only quarrelsome comment.

It is really stupid of you to say I have no argument when I have said numerous times that I agree with the president. Are you saying he has no argument either? Or is it just no argument you agree with?

Yep some believe that the only type of people who are coming across the border are the highest in character. I will agree that probably a small percentage of them are crooks thieves and malcontents. But it is a fact that a large amount of MI13 gang members and criminals are documented as part of that group. I looks like to me Mexico is doing exactly what Cuba did and cleaning out their jails and sending them to us. I would also add that the real racists people are the ones that are advocating a free and open border. These are the people who want a lower class of worker who are ripped off by greedy employers. Let's be honest. Does a lawn care company or pallets manufacturer lower their cost to their consumers by hiring people at sub standard wages? I be not. The increased profits are pocketed.

Comprehensive immigration reform is not an arguement, it is an outline for a poor work of fiction.

Bert Lance, Carter appointed him Director of the Office of Management and Budget. However, allegations of financial irregularities in his management of the Calhoun (Ga.) National Bank and another Georgia bank forced his resignation later in 1977.

Press reports have suggested that Lance was involved in the BCCI scandal of the 1980s and early 1990s.

Apparently tax evasion is "The Mexican Way".
This week, one of the majors (CNN?, FOX?) reported that the tax
compliance rate in Mexico was...ELEVEN PERCENT!
One of the lowest in civilized countries.

But don't worry, I'm sure that will be totally reversed when we
have legalized all the saintly illegals Dubya talks about.
(not bloody likely)

Bougainvillea; Plant it four rows deep from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico with a six-foot deep trench three feet wide between each row and bee boxes staggered every twelve linear feet on both sides of the collective barrier.

I don't recall any one playing the angle of tax evasion - either charged to the employeer, illegal or both !

I have suggested this as an angle in the past. Tax evasion is exactly what chaffes me about illegals. They put 32 dependents on their W4, use our social services and never pay any income taxes. In the meantime, they drive the wages down to the point an honest citizen who does pay taxes cannot afford to work at the wage offered. Instead, they sell meth to each other.

You and I are more likely to get crosswise with the IRS for trying to be a good standing citizen than an illegal is. The IRS has the data the government needs to fix the illegal problem. Instead, the IRS creates shadow files for SS#'s being used by more than one person and don't pursue invalid SS#'s. Nope, easier to audit you and I.
