If I had to guess, I'd say they were beating on him for succeeding and acting white.

They had just come out of a security lockdown, involving metal detectors. My guess is that he ratted somebody out, or they thought he had.

The public school system and liberal culture are too blame. Vouchers are a good start, towards the only solution, the dissolution of the public school system.
