It really is an issue of national security. Members of Congress should not be able to walk around security screening in the Capitol any more than they can at an airport. Who is to say that someone who just looks like a member of Congress and flashes a phony badge couldn't walk through. How about using retinal scans or digital fingerprints for members of Congress?

It seems there was a congressman (I don't know if it was fed or state) who brought someone onto the floor with him who pulled out a gun and shot people!
Congress should be forced to go through the EXACT same security measures that Joe Sixpack does. Their expectations of better treatment because they're elected officials reeks of classism.

Congresscritters routinely violate the law. There's a culture of impunity on Capitol Hill. I don't mean corruption in the sense of taking bribes; I mean this notion they're better and more special than average folks. After spending a couple of years on the taxpayers' time, you begin to feel entitled. Just ask the disgraced Randy "Duke" Cunningham on the temptations of power. You can go from fame to jail in the time it takes to blink an eye.

You are absolutely right. It is ridiculous in this time of terrorism that anyone is allowed to avoid screening when entering a government building in the Capitol of the United States.
