If you remember my story about this verse coming *alive* for me in South Dakota, it happened while I drove along, reciting that favorite scripture.
I did so every time I drove out to the AF base on the plains, able to clearly see in the far distance the "Black Hills" - "hills" a definitely misleading name!
Consider these facts:
"The Black Hills are ancient, some of the oldest mountains in North America. While they don't claim the same attention as younger, taller mountain ranges, they're recognized, like wise and aged matriarchs, for their quiet splendor."
"The Hills are home to the nation's first national forest and to one of our country's most prominent and defining symbols, Mount Rushmore National Memorial (see the Attractions chapter in our full print book). Yet even among those who easily recognize Mount Rushmore, many don't know that the famous mountain carving is in the Black Hills, in South Dakota."
Mt. Rushmore itself is 5,700'high.
Living in Rapid City, I had to use high altitude recipes for baking,
since it was 3,200 feet above sea level.
Driving out of town on days off to explore,
it was only minutes before you were at 5,000-6,000' elevations!
