Hill conservatives warn Bush of amnesty anger
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | March 31, 2006 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 03/30/2006 11:46:10 PM PST by SUSSA

House conservatives yesterday issued a dire warning to President Bush and Republican leadership that they will pay a devastating political price if they proceed with a guest-worker program or anything resembling amnesty for illegal aliens before securing the borders and enforcing existing immigration laws.

"They will remember in November," Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, said of voters nationwide. "And many of those who have stood with our Republican majority in the last decade are not only angry, many of them plan to be absent from the polls" this year when the entire House and one-third of the Senate is up for re-election.

What country do you live in?

Bush REFUSES to prosecute employers of illegals. He stopped interior deportations. He now has stopped stings of employers.
It is HIS responsibility to enforce the laws on the books.

He is a disgrace on this issue.

We have an "Outing the Elitists" winner. We are not even a nation of laws anymore. What the heck do the republicans stand for? Why should I even bother voting for you. Why should I even bother rolling the dice on you? At this point in time I trust this bunch of Pubes as much as I trust the democrats.

Republicans make me sick!!!!!!!!!

Where do I go...Carter/Clinton scum bags? I will not vote.

I think I'll have a beer and become a disenfranchised voter. AH, what a nice spring day I have here. What is that sound I hear? No, I don't care once the fecal matter hits the oscillating air mover.

Bush has been much more limited in what he wants in the way of immigrants, and remains strong on border enforcement.

"Bush remains strong on border enforcement".

Bush who? Not George W. Bush.

George W. Bush is President of the United States and Commander-in-Chief of her armed forces. He is the executive in charge of the Border Patrol, of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, of Homeland Security, of the Labor Department and the Commerce Department (among other things). Under certain circumstances (which unquestionably obtain in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas) he can federalize the National Guard of those states.

THIS is the guy who is "strong on border enforcement"?

What would it look like if he were weak?

Somehow we need to start a petition to get JD Hayworth to run for President in 2008. He has the guts, the backbone and the right ideas for enforcing the border and our laws. I'm tell you that he would be the best candidate if he'll just run on his principles and beliefs. I think for the short term that this illegal problem isn't going to go away and we don't have the leadership in place (at every level - state, federal and even local) to make enforcement a true option, so we need to broaden the picture and start planning for 2008.

Where did I ever say I was for open borders? Where did Bush ever say that? It`s kinda funny in a way, if you were rght, why is the Border Patrol catching 1000`s everyday and sending them back?

Wanna bet?

When it comes down to it, the dems are not gonna be voted in.

When it comes to voting, people will realize that:

a) the dems would be much worse about amnesty than Bush or the pubs--they would pass a law that everyone has to hire at least one.

b) the dems would cut and run on the war, negating all the progress that's been made

c) the dems would raise your taxes

and

d) the dems would vote against any conservative social reform like outlawing partial birth abortion, and on and on.

<> I feel your pain! (lol) And I've got some mulch to put down, and a dead square patch in my lawn (from a barely used wading pool) to reseed. But, seriously: There are two kinds of governments in the world: The first kind, fortunately there aren't as many as there used to be, oppress their people. This is a fool's errand, and such governments fail sooner or later. The SECOND kind is smarter; this kind of government does not oppress its people, it merely IGNORES them, and largely does the bidding of elites and certain interest groups. This is what we have in the USA today--a representative republic that doesn't represent. You see it in illegal immigration policy, outsourcing, health insurance, even the war in Iraq. There is a cartoon "happy bunny" popular with young people who says insensitive things for a laugh. One of his catchphrases is "I know how you feel, I just don't care." This is the attitude of the US government (all 3 branches) and the American elite toward the population at large. What to do about this? Lord only knows.

not a time to give in to the Democrats. They are NOT an alternative

We don't HAVE an alternative. We are damned if we do, damned if we don't.

There is not much difference between dems and pubbies anymore.

One thing I admire about President Bush is that he doesn't cower in the fact of anyone's anger, let alone a group of angry House Republicans

This is not his country alone. He not only ignores the House Republicans, he ignores the people of this country who have said again and again that we DO NOT want legalization for illegal aliens.

How much more plain must we be? Fact is, it doesn't matter what the plebes think. Our elected officials don't give a rat's butt about us. Only votes matter to them. And 13 million votes is like gold in their pockets.

Good post.

Bush defines weakness when it comes to the borders and immigration.

Be careful NOT to give out too much CORRECT information on this thread.

I have a feeling that there are some people here who will probably try to deport you.:-)

We will have to wait and see, but he is on record stating he will veto Amnesty. I believe him, but we will wait and see. I hope a flawed plan never reaches his desk. The Senate is out of control IMHO.

From a Bush speech:

Miami, Florida Friday, Aug. 25, 2000
Western Hemisphere

America has one national creed, but many accents. We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.(like that's a good thing)

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

Bush has issued no such order. Inform yourself, as your mindset is the disgrace... NOT the leader of the Free World!
