Michael Savage just said on his show (and I think I have this correct)that our President, George W. Bush, said today in Mexico, “Nationalism is a dangerous thing.”

What could he have meant by that bizarre statement?

For what reason did we break away from England over 200 years ago?

Somehow I think Savage is mistaken.

It means that many globalists view national distinctions as archaic concepts of the past. Borders are dangerous to the globalists as are the also outdated concepts of patriotism and sovereignty.

“Nationalism is a dangerous thing.”

Nationalism, nativism, same thing.

Nativists are afraid of any culture but their own. There are a lot of nativists in America, and not an insignificant number on Free Republic.

They hurt, rather than help, any kind of compromise on a immigration reform bill.

Good question. Perhaps he's annoyed by Americans' desire not to live in Amerexico.

Nationalism is a dangerous thing. It is elevation of "nation" above all else.

We have a constitutional republic. That constitutional system is elevated above all the flag waving, patriotic music, speeches, and pro-America emotionalism that a demagogue preaching nationalism can dish out.

After all, national socialism was extremely nationalistic about pre-war Germany.

I think that's what the president meant, and I agree with him.

I would like to think it would have been a response to the protests in Los Angeles and the upsidedown American flags under the mexican flags, BUT... then I have to come down to reality.

He's talking about us
