having illegal labor and guest workers isn't "capitalism" - its socialism, its socialism for businesses, who get to concentrate wealth for themselves while passing their costs to the general taxpayers, who are essentially subsidizing the low wages they pay.Worth repeating.

Please cite the SCOTUS case law that has held the 14th Amendment does not grant automatic citizenship to those born in the U.S.

I probably won't stay at FR (or donate $) much anymore.Maybe you'll be replaced by an illegal alien FReeper willing to do the posting that you won't do.
Bush has been a masterful president in many respects. This isn't one of them. His position on illegal aliens and border control, like the Harriet Miers debacle, is dumb, dumb, dumb.

Americas culture is the best in the world. Mexicos culture is a pile of dog S#%&.I agree that American culture is the best. However, lots of Hispanic Americans appreciate the Mexican culture, and celebrate it regularly. So it's not true that Mexican culture is what you say it is.
It's a different culture, just as the Irish culture was different when they came over.

It's that kind of thinking that prevents any rational immigration reform. No, it is your mealy mouthed treason which keeps us from adopting reasonable reforms. Reasonable to you is to allow as many in the country as possible. Reasonable in fact is to deport every single one. To build whatever it takes to stop this invasion, which they admit is to take over this nation.

That's fine - if you REALLY think a momentary "brain fart" is the equivalent of a POTUS alleged to be an "arrogant psychopath who deems himself King, Lord, and Master", it pointless debating you too.
To: clawrence3
That would depend on their particular situation. Most illegals who find work here find it doing difficult work for extremely low wages. As such, yes, I look at that as a modern form of slavery.
People who work in sweat-shops make money too. The idea is that they never make enough money to better themselves. It's purposely made impossible to ever get out of their situation by paying them just enough for them to survive.

Maybe. And, I just hope you feel the same way about Miers the first time Alito votes the wrong way.

Someone needs to tell the President that the American people don't EVER want to hear those words come out of his mouth again!
If someone from the White House reads this forum, then they need to get the word back to the WH---Scrub that hateful phrase from the President's rhetoric or else one day he will say that phrase to the wrong group and get a chorus of boos!
To: NJ_gent
"Modern" form of slavery is NOT what you said, sir.

Did you vote for him twice?
To: clawrence3
There is no point in debating with Quislings.
All one can do is try to expose them.

Well, it is my understanding that the grape industry is going the way of mechanization. There are a lot of folks who live in what I consider squalor.
Most of them do it by choice. By choice I mean they refuse to learn to read, to write, to speak English, to show up for work when the work starts so I don't moan about anyone who is in this country illegally and working for a wage they accepted.

I have a friend who fell in love with an illegal who had been here over 20 years and never paid taxes. He was a construction worker in Florida working 1099's. Should he be given slack also?

I suspect you are in the minority among those bashing Bush right now.
To: clawrence3
"Facts" won't sway them - just like the DPW deal - it's mob-mentality now at FR - we already had one person call the President of the United States an "arrogant psychopath who deems himself King, Lord, and Master" - I probably won't stay at FR (or donate $) much anymore. I've read at least three posts, today, that are calling for Bush's impeachment.
FR is drifting to the far-right, towards protectionism and isolationism.
Buchananism.
