The hilarious saga of the term-limited Knox County Commissioners, most of whom voted for the odious wheel tax increase, continues. Wouldn't it be great if this kind of thing happened to every politician? For once a state supreme court did its job and interpreted the law.

I wonder how much retirement these folks have put in for themselves.

It would be great to see this in Congress. I used to be against term limits, but I've seen too many politicians from both parties, who, once they get to Washington, their #1 job becomes winning the next election. That means telling your constituents that you're looking out for them, while doing everything you can to make the lobbyists happy so that you can get the almighty campaign donations.

You are so right. I can only remember one (1) who said if he was sent to D.C. he would serve 2 terms (I think - I'm not sure how many but is wasn't many) and not run again. He did it!!! The voting public should have the sense to not send them back, but...........

Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) observed his own specified term limit when he was in the House, and wouldn't run again.
After a few years had passed, Dr. Tom ran and won Don Nickles' Senate seat (Don retired). Now Coburn has term limited himself in the Senate (to two terms, if I recall correctly).
But the bad actors in the House and Senate will never retire willingly. (Bad actors - Teddy Kennedy is a ham chewing up the scenery).

We are not going to 'retain' 2 life long ones on our county commission. I LOVE IT.

All those wonderful bribes, I mean campaign donations from lobbyists and corporations, can buy a lot of advertising on TV, and your typical American is swayed by whoever has the best advertising.
