I would think that twenty years should do it. Maybe a little less if things went well.

"Dobbs is THE most articulate and incisive voice against the illegal sunami that is destroying our nation in ALL the media. FReepers should check him out."
I agree with your thoughts on Lou Dobbs.
Freepers would be amazed how much they agree with him on the border/national security issues.

Immigration and amnesty is probably some sort of backroom deal Bush made with the Democrats so the Democrats will leave him alone on the Iraq issue (For now, we all know that if the Democrats win in '06, they will tell Bush to remove the troops or face impeachment)

Not if we can keep HR 4437 from becoming law.
And there's no reason that we should. Let me give you another Fr'instance: Suppose Charles Manson had never been caught after he and his bunch slaughtered Sharon Tate and her party. Suppose that, instead, he slipped into the shadows, went to Canada and joined a church. He rose to the position of Deacon, then went to seminary and became the church's pastor and ended up earning a doctorate in theology. He married the church's organist and they had 3 children. One became a physicist who teaches part-time at Harvard between trying to unlock the secrets of the Universe. Another is a biologist working on cures that range from the common cold, to diabetes, obesity, and cancer. The third is in his last year and Eton and has a full scholarship to Oxford.
A viewer watching America's Most Wanted sees the umpteen-millionth running of the story of the Tate murders and an age-enhanced photo of Manson and realizes that Manson is his church's pastor. He calls the AMW hotline and turns Manson in. The question is, is Manson still a murderer and illegal alien? Are his children the children of a murderer and illegal alien?
HR4437 still allows illegals to become citizens and continues to reward them by allowing them to come here. It does little or nothing at all to close the border, control immigration or prevent criminals from entering the country, so I don't understand your opposition to it. It's smoke 'n mirrors from a government that has no plans to solve a significant and growing problem.
Recent tests of border security have indicated that nuclear material could be gotten across the border with no problem. Are you really willing to risk the safety and security of yourself, your family and your friends on the word of the government that we are safe? Would you believe Ray Nagin or Kathleen Blanco if they told you not to worry? Regardless of how you might feel, these people still represent and are the government in NOLA and LA, respectively.
In case you haven't noticed, most Hispanics who come to this country don't become "part of the family". They expect us to accommodate them, their language and their customs at the expense of our own. I can certainly get into adding their customs and traditions to ours (Cinco de Mayo comes to mind), but I'm not willing to see ours tossed into the garbage for fear of offending someone who doesn't want to become part of the American dream, and isn't willing to remain here as a partner and share in making that dream a reality for us all.
The people demonstrating in Mexifornia truly believe that we are intruders on their land. They lost that battle well over 150 years ago and the American Southwest is still that - the American Southwest. Are you really that eager and willing to abdicate your sovereignty, your house, your neighborhood, your land to a group of invaders without firing a shot? If they were drug dealers and pimps taking over your neighborhood, would you just let them?
Should we just ignore the treaties their ancestors signed with our that acknowledged that the American Southwest was no longer part of Mexico and was part of the United States? Is it right to disrespect and dishonor the agreements these ancestors made, one with another, because Mexico has a crumbling infrastructure, a corrupt government, and a president whose only concern is reserving Mexico for the direct descendants of the Spanish conquerors (white Mexicans)? Mexico's problems should not be visited on our own. Fox should be accountable for creating solutions to Mexico's problems other than exporting its poorest and least educated citizens.

Actually, there are at least 564 reasons to oppose HR 4437: http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/poll?poll=144 Even Dobb's poll has some who think the law should include guest worker / amnesty.
My main reason was the possibility of humanitarian assistance. As for your Charles Manson analogy, it is fatally flawed. There is no statute of limitation on murder, and I'm still not sure how he was an "illegal alien" for going to Canada. We certainly wouldn't throw Manson's hypothetical children out of the country even under those circumstances. I could keep going about that, as well as risk, worry, and assimilation but from the Bible's perspective - but that's not really the direction of this particular thread.

The final tally on Dobbs's poll:
Yes 10% 1569 votes (those are all votes AGAINST HR 4437 ; )
No 90% 14356 votes

There are plenty of Border Watch operations and opinion rallies for the entire month of April. The biggest single location Border Watch is east of El Paso. Come for a weekend, a week or the month. Check out the
Texas Minutemen website for info.

When you see open poll numbers like that the issue ain't dem or pub, it is a registered legally voting American Citizen issue. If the pub or dems claim it as "their" issue and advocate ANYTHING other than send them packing back across the border before enrolling in a "guest worker" program is political suicide.

No they should not get ammnesty , and a guest worker program in just that . They broke the immigration laws and they need to go back and do it the right way as every other immigrant had to do get a green card .
