The MuscleHead Revolution ^ | 032906

Let me just say that it gives us the most pragmatic, basic, action plan for people who have values of faith and conscience, people who are faith-practicing, people who are full of common sense can see a sixty-seat Senate become a reality.

And let me quickly add this - the peril that will come upon this nation if we do not - is stunning. Hugh details the scenario in depth. This is not a gray area kind of book. People of conscience MUST get involved this year for the 2006 elections! Have to!

As an atheist I'm not offended by this, but it is curious how religion has so pervaded the right of late.

Oh I get it:

Government will get smaller when the GOP takes one of the branches of congress. Done.

Oh, government will get smaller when the GOP controls the whole congress. Done.

Oh, government will get smaller when the GOP controls the Presidency and both house of congress. Done.

Now, it's oh, government will get smaller when we hold 60 Senate seats.

I wonder what the excuse will be when we get the 60 Senate seats.

The GOP is as much a party of big government as the Dems are.

Right AND Left. Heard Hillary lately? She's a regular Benny Hinn with the homilies and healing.

My guess is that since issues of "faith" became the official reason the hairy unwashed all voted for Bush in in '04, that the Dems are scrambling to cash in and the GOP is flexing ownership muscle over religion-speak.

How about:

Government will get smaller when CONSERVATIVES take one of the branches of congress. Not yet done.

Oh, government will get smaller when CONSERVATIVES control the whole congress. Not yet done.

Oh, government will get smaller when CONSERVATIVES control the Presidency and both house of congress. Not yet done.

Now, it's oh, government will get smaller when CONSERVATIVES hold 60 Senate seats. Not yet done.

The GOP is about half conservative, the Dimocrats are without any real conservatives.

Yeah I agree, and that is fine. But the RNC shouldn't expect a penny from me again, nor should any GOP candidate unless I know for sure where he/she stands. Fortuntely, I have Coburn as a Senator and know where he stands.

Good point. I kinda wish people would keep their religion out of this kind of discussion. No, to the kneejerks around here, I'm not saying it's something to be ashamed of, or it should be forced out of the public sector. It's just that it's a distraction. I don't care if religious belief is the core of one's political positions, I'd just rather discuss the positions. I just don't care about how one comes to agree on the issues, as long as the discussion focuses ON the issues, rather than "My support of this issue is due to my faith, so my position is correct." I prefer people talking about the issues because of the value of the particular issue.

I could support a Constitutional Party candidate, or a Taxpayers Party candidate, or even a (hopefully soon to be formed) Legal Immigration Party candidate, as long as I could be comfortable that he wouldn't increase the power of the Dims.

True. Faith has traditionally had a place in debate - in many ways the foundation of western philosophy itself. It should not be used as a shield or a trump card [like anything else], or simply cover ignorance fear of confrontation. Sadly, Christians and other people of faith often remove themselves from the arena.
