but I've never heard of telling people in a burning building to stay put.

Yes,that would seem to be the logical plan of action in a "typical" situation...."get the bleep outta there, any way you can".

Who knows why that advice was given.Perhaps the "plan" for an incident like that in a building like that is to take the folks off the roof with helicopters.

Not a pilot, but I don't think it was possible to fly helicopters over the towers -- air currents or whatever affected by the tremendous heat. Could be wrong. As for officials ordering the immediate evacuation of the 2nd tower, I think that at the time, it was presumed that the hitting of the first tower was a horrible accident. Just some thoughts, not a debate.

You could well be correct on both counts. However, regarding the evacuations of the second tower,I would think that they'd want the occupants out a) so that the FDNY could have maximum flexibility in fighting the fire and b)in case the fire spread somehow to that tower.

There was a police helicoper flying around the 2 towres.
But they didn't want to try a roof rescue.
They said cause no one got to the roof.
There was no way to do a roof rescue on the South Tower.
The entire roof was all smoke.

But on the North Tower, about 30 percent of the roof didn't have smoke.
I still think when the people were at the ledges of the windows of the upper floors of the North Tower.
The police helicopter should have just tried to send a rope to see if a rescue was possible.

Yes, unfortunately the story is true and no Charlie Sheen conspiracy. lol.

The Port Authority should be sued for that decision.
It cost the lives of alot of people.

Perhaps, but I,at least, don't know who might have signed off on some "WTC Disaster Plan",drawn up after the first WTC attack, that ordered that it be done just as it was.

The NY State Fire Marshall, perhaps? The Feds?

I saw a Documentary on the making of the Towers and one of the architects said "helicopters do not land on skyscrapers" he said it was a big misconception that it could not be done. Apparently the radios were not working correctly with the FDNY and they could not communicate with people. The people in the second tower were told by management to go back to their desks and everything was fine after the first plane hit.

Angcat, you say, I saw a Documentary on the making of the Towers and one of the architects said "helicopters do not land on skyscrapers" he said it was a big misconception that it could not be done.

I got news for this guy.
It was done.
In the first World Trade Center bombing in 93, a helicopter flew to top of the North Tower.
It didn't land on the top of the tower.
It was right above the top of the tower.

The doors to the roof were locked, too.
Police Sgt. Timothy Farrell was able to use tools he brought with him to break open the doors and get down the stairs. The helicopters evacuated 28 people with medical difficulties from the roof.

There were rescues from the roof after the first WTC bombing in 1993.

I often think of the man at the top taking care of the broadcasting towers. He remained a long time and then the building fell and we lost him......and of course, all TV transmission here in the NY metro area.

With all the smoke and flames, it didn't look like a helicopter rescue was feasible to me.

He said never go to the roof of a skyscraper to escape, go down. I will try and find more info on the show and the fella's name.

That was the South Tower roof which had all the smoke on the roof. .
If you look at the tape of the North Tower roof.
There was a large area on the North Tower roof where their was no smoke.

You can see most of the smoke was blowing on the South Tower roof.
Look at the North Tower roof.
You can see, there could have been a roof rescue.
There's not much smoke.

While I'm not a helicopter pilot... You people have seen too many Hollywood fantasy/action movies. Just remember, islam(may pig dung be upon their prophet's head) was responsible for every person that died on September 11th...

Hearing the tape is like re-living that awful day on that Tuesday on September 11, 2001. We will never forget that day.
