Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of the victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla.

Everyone beats the French. What's the big deal?

They are the only people the Mexicans ever beat. Kinda puts it into perspective doesn't it?

It's worse than that, if memory serves me correctly. The Mexicans won the battle (which is celebrated on May 5th), but lost the war.
