Hispanic groups in the U.S. are planning a major boycott of American life dubbed a day without Latinos to protest proposed legislation that would criminalize illegal immigration.
Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) President Nativo Lopez, one of the organizers of the recent protests in Los Angeles that saw at least 500,000 people take to the streets, said the May 1 "day without Latinos would send a stern message to Washington.
"We are looking forward to a major action in all large U.S. cities where immigrants make up a significant proportion of the workforce, Lopez told Agence France-Presse.
"We are asking people not to go to school, or work, or shopping, and instead to go out and protest against the racist and inhumane measures in this bill.
MAPA and other grass roots Latino groups are also organizing an April 10 protest in 20 major American cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas in a bid to defeat the proposed immigration reform bill, Lopez said.
And a third day of protest is scheduled to take place Saturday in Costa Mesa, a town in Orange County, Calif., that has been a focus of anti-illegal immigrant protests for the past several months.
The citys mayor has pushed a proposal through the city council to train police to nab and deport illegal aliens who commit crimes.
Said Lopez: "We are going there to make a tough statement right in the bedrock of the anti-immigrant movement.
Perhaps not surprisingly, May 1 is also known as "May Day," the International Worker's Day, which is infamously celebrated in Moscow's Red Square and by communists and socialists throughout the world.
"Will they still take all the "freebies?" that our country provides on this day?"
Isn't the first of the month the day when the food stamps and welfare checks are sent out? Wouldn't it be funny if they all got lost in the mail?
You betcha. That way, these invading colonists, who come here only to work, get two days off.
Me too. I think the biggest losers will be `Babs & Co.', liberal hypocrits, east and west coast: you know, the ones that pay/do their maids under the table.
The rest of us will continue to drive our own cars, mow our own yards, make our own beds, I'm painting my truck interior now, so I don't even need a Tijuana upholstery tuck-job, mix our own drinks (my fav: `Hippo Laxative') then cut our own hair, go food shopping--in other words, fend for ourselves.
They are not all perfect, they are just like anyone else, but you have to admire someone who goes to work everyday with the prospects of possibly getting killed or maimed. The media attitude toward police is on a par with their attitude toward our troops.
I've been telling folks here when we all get together to snicker about what is going on in France - the US isn't far off from that. Here's the proof.
I should make a stop at the local Taco Bell that day...the replacements might actually get my order right.
Cinco de Mayo = Mexican pride in kicking Frog Butt in 1862 (and it falls on a Friday this year.)
As to which day (a Monday or a Friday) makes for a more logical walkout day for Latinos, you figure it out! (They sure aren't going to choose a Tuesday!)
;^) VBG
But if those who pay for all the services provided to the illegal invaders stayed home. Things would grind to a halt.
Hey, even if they still goof it, perhaps just being able to understand what they're trying to say and not having to double-count your change to ensure you weren't ripped off will be worth it!
Why don't they really exercise their grievances and make that "day," like, permanent.

There it is: good walls make good neighbors
Some educated in government schools.
day without Latinos
Let's make that EVERY DAY.
Four women were driving across the country. Each one was from a different place; Georgia, Nebraska, California and Mexico.
Shortly after the trip began, the woman from Georgia started pulling peaches from her bag and throwing them out of the window.
"What the heck are you doing?" demanded the Nebraskan.
"We have so many of these darn things in Georgia, I'm just sick of looking at them!"
A moment later, the gal from Nebraska began pulling ears of corn from her bag and tossing them from the window.
"What are you doing that for?" asked the gal from California.
"We have so many of these things in Nebraska, I am just sick of looking at them!"
Inspired, the gal from California opened the car door and pushed the Mexican out.
TEQUILA !!?
The illegal aliens and the criminals who hire them and the criminals who harbor them are getting out in the street making their desires known. It is way past time those of us who support the rule of law and secure borders did the same.
Join Veterans for Secure Borders, The Minuteman Project, Latino Americans for Immigration Reform, Mothers Against Illegal Aliens, and other groups protesting amnesty for these criminals, and demanding the government protect our borders.

FReepers should be at this rally in strength. Saturday, May 6, in Crawford, TX.
What is funny is...I keep hearing on the local Dallas stations that it is on the 9th...
Wouldn't it be funny if everyone showed up on the WRONG Day!!
BTW...on May 1st--Communist Day, there has got to be some way for WE THE PEOPLE to let them know, we don't care if they don't work or go to school...they are only hurting themselves...
How will we know the difference?
If I were a good U.S. citizen who just happened to be of hispanic descent, and who would never participate in this nonsense, I'd be pretty steamed.
Wolfstar, thanks for the courage to speak the truth. I'll vouch for you that no one on FR esteems the Gipper more than you, but truth is truth, and your point is well-made.
