PARIS (AP) France's Constitutional Council upholds new law making it easier to fire young workers
Let the riots begin!
Could the French be growing a pair.......?
PARIS - France's Constitutional Council upheld a new law Thursday making it easier to fire young workers, a measure that sparked nationwide strikes by labor unions and violent protests by students.
The unrest plunged the government of President Jacques Chirac into crisis.
Thursday's decision by the council, which rules on the constitutionality of French laws, puts the onus on Chirac to either implement the law as is or negotiate a compromise.
The lessons of socialism are painful.
I think it shows that even committed sociaists who are responsible for the future of nations are seeing the lessons of capitalism, in spite of their best intentions.
"I want
(start)
a job with good pay. I don't want to go to work. If I had to go to work I wouldn't be free to riot and demand" (return to start)
I am a network engineer, and many network engineering positions (and IT positions in general)are structured as short-term positions, and many of these can lead to long-term positions. It is much easier to get a job when the employers know that they don't have to keep you any longer than they need you.
I can remember interviewing for law firm jobs when I was a young lawyer, and everyone in a law firm needed to be willing to marry you to their daughter (or son, if you are a woman) before they would hire you. And they expected you to stay until they told you that you have either made partner or not made partner. Heaven forbid you take a year off from law and live in Asia for a year of two.
I prefer the world of IT. Very dynamic and unpredictable work, but the pay is great and it is pretty easy to find work now that the IT job market is good.
The poo is really going to hit the fan there now!
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.
They are a bunch of spoiled brats who are protesting. Who in the world is guaranteed a job for life? Noone!
