Only makes sense to them; they want to keep gay marriage legal here in MA, and that doesn't suddenly give them jurisdiction over other states. The issue would go up to the SCOTUS until it was decided in a predictable fashion.

Unlike most FReepers I have no problem with gays marrying, I guess it appeals to my Libertarian side (a very small side, but still). The reason I have no problem with it is because i think the government should stay out of people's lives as much as possible. Also, it looks like a fad to me, one I predict will fade to the point where a handful are taking advantage of this.

Oddly enough, the most militant anti-gay marriage person I know is openly gay. He thinks it's just silly. I agree with him.

Thats an interesting perspective. People that petition the government to recognize them in an effort to gain status sounds like the people are intruding upon the government, not the other way around. I don't see how the libertarian philosophy has any bearing on taking the position that gays should be allowed to marry (each other). Of course, I've gone 6 days without a cigarette, and my circuitry might not be functioning normally.
