You Can't Straddle 'Border' (Deborah Orin)
NEW YORK POST ^ | March 30, 2006 | by Deborah Orin

Posted on 03/30/2006 4:12:27 AM PST by johnny7

IMMIGRATION is starting to look like a hot-button issue like abortion that's impossible to have both ways. There's no way to avoid a fundamental choice between enforcing borders to stop illegal immigration or letting illegal workers already here work toward citizenship while accepting that more will come.

The conventional wisdom agrees that Republicans face the biggest problem. "Republicans are trying to appeal to Latinos, but they're using Latinos as a whipping boy on immigration," says Democratic pollster Mark Mellman. And yet, a stunning 71 percent of voters say they'd be more likely to vote for a politician who'd crack down on illegal immigration, while 59 percent oppose a guest-worker program, a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found.

Legal immigrants have had it up to the neck with those who dive across our borders.

Look for the Democrats to play the Pummel Pedro Card from now to November. Every one knows Republicans hate Latinos.

(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie. Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")

Republicans got a choice. They can lose the pro-illegal vote... or lose their base. Even in my blue-state of MA... a healthy majority of voters would prefer a crackdown on illegals as opposed to the blatant appeasement of the McCain/Kennedy travesty.

It's worse than amnesty ~ you had Specter, Kennedy and McCain out there groveling before a mob of Mexicans who were burning US flags and waving Mexican flags.

We really ought to expect more than that out of our Senators.

[percent of voters say they'd be more likely to vote for a politician who'd crack down on illegal immigration, while 59 percent oppose a guest-worker program, a Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found.]

Absolutely true, but historically the congress comes up with useless laws that do nothing but soothe the American citizen. They will probably do so now. No additional laws are necessary; enforcement of existing immigration laws is necessary and only the National Guard can defend the borders as the border patrol is just another useless liberal run bueracratic nightmare that welcomes illegal immigrants into America.
Lost all respect for todays do nothing, pony and dog show politicians.
Congress is now run by fools.

"There may also be a subtle class issue. Many professional women rely on illegal aliens to clean their homes or watch their kids or do their nails. Moms who can't afford hired help may be less receptive to calls for amnesty."

Read that quote over a few times and see if your stomach doesn't turn inside out.

By all means, let us have our illegal aliens do the work that Americans refuse to do, like watching some "professional woman's" brat, or doing the nails of some pampered princess.

Let us not forget that we are a nation of immigrants, (not laws) and besides, more importantly, how do you like my lawn? My illegal alien does a great job, and for next to nothing.

Like Social Security, this illegal alien problem will be shelved. Congress will talk and in the end will do nothing.

Any bill pertaining to it will be so watered down as to make it meaningless. Meanwhile both Republicans and Democrats will run for election bellowing of how Americans must be protected.

The only thing I know for certain is that very soon illegal aliens will be a "protected species".

Never mind them. They are all still somewhere else, waiting their turn.
How about US citizen-taxpayers? We've had it up to here with excuses from our own leaders...

And the halleluya chorus repeating over and over
There are too many of them!
We can't deport 11 million people (or 20 million)!
And my favorite...

"We can't afford to hire tens of thousands of Storm Troopers to break down people's doors and haul them away to the ovens..."

Lame.
Lame
Lame.

We had a Salvadoran family living around here once ~ they had some money ~ kept a servant in a shed beside the house.

I despise people who have servants.

I wonder what Washington will do when Hispanic Southern California politicos demand an independent state?

Done properly deporting them won't be a problem.

Simply change the laws so that noone but a lawful US citizen can avail themselves of any 'benefits' of any kind. That would mean no unemployment, no welfare, no 'free' medical care, no anything at all.

Couple that with a drastic increase in penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegals, say $5,000.00 per illegal per day of employment, and the illegals would leave skid marks returning to their countries of origin.

All that would be left would be the hard core trouble makers and criminal types. Those you simply unleash law enforcement on.

Problem solved.

They left out "brutalize, rape and kill your sister, like that "power washer" in New York who took the victim's phone and taunted her family and friends..."

I feel guilty being so hostile towards them...

Remember the Tom Clancy novel.."Rising Sun"..a war with Japan developes from a trade war with the country, which was caused initially by a accident involving a Japanese import car that killed some American family...well, I suspect tis whole immigration issue whas some surpirses yet to come..there will be some hideous crime committed by an illegal that will completely change the dynamics of the issue..

Almost? Why I'm doubled over with laughter.

Laughter that stems from me thinking that because J. Effin Kerry didn't get elected we Americans would not evolve into the French.

Excuse please? I think I'm gonna be ill. ;)

Careful ... we may soon be servants ourselves, and we mustn't bite the hand that feeds us.

American-born blacks should be rising up to chase out these aliens who are taking their jobs.

Why aren't they?
